Quick Reminder: The Porn Industry Has Supported And Awarded Notorious Racist Michael Lucas For Years

BjWb2sSIgAAmKGh1.jpg_large1While many in gay media have rightfully been calling out the GayVN awards show all weekend long for having an “ethnic” category at their upcoming event (a category they’ve had for literally 20 years, since 1998), it’s worth pointing out that the Cybersocket Awards, the AVNs (the straight version of the GayVNs), and the XBiz Awards all have even more “ethnic” categories at their ceremonies, and they’ve had them for years. So, this isn’t just about one gay porn awards show, it’s about almost all the awards shows, gay and straight.

But, as noted here the other day, the discussion of racism in the porn industry should be held in the context of the entire industry—not just the awards shows, which are reflective of the industry—and, specifically, the racist porn studio owners who’ve been allowed to thrive in the industry. The most well-known and the most racist of those producers, of course, is Michael Lucas of Lucas Entertainment, whose blatant racism, bigotry, and xenophobia has been out in the open for nearly a decade, and whose career has been simultaneously supported by porn retailers, porn trade magazines, porn awards shows, porn blogs, and porn performers who work for him. For anyone who has somehow missed Lucas’s out-and-proud racism over the years, here’s a quick reminder with just a few of the many examples.

Here’s Michael Lucas responding to the Syrian refugee crisis in 2015, labeling Muslims as “barbarians”:

uslic

Earlier this year, Michael Lucas again labeled Muslim refugees as “barbarians” during an interview with white supremacist website Breitbart:

What I always recommend is when you see how these people live, what they do, start appreciating more our society. And protect our society from those barbarians as vigorously as they protect their society. […] I am referring to the Muslim world. To the world of Islam. We will not be able to change them but we have to protect our world and our way of life as vigorously as they protect their way of life. And yes immigration is a problem. Yes, on the left this is a very unpopular opinion. If we are taking (refugees and immigrants) we should not take from the pool of people that is so hostile to us. […] Muslim immigration is a problem. They come here, they lobby, they bring hate. And that is not the right pool of people we should be taking from. That is very unfortunate but it would be terrible for refugees and it would be terrible for us because there will be a lot of hate. People don’t want really refugees from Muslim countries because it is such a different culture that will collide with our culture. They will radicalize much faster here and that is why I am very much against this immigration.

Back in 2015, following the terrorist attack in Paris, Michael Lucas tweeted that “all terrorists are Muslims”:

muslimAlso in 2015, Michael Lucas tweeted an image depicting women and children in burqas as being bags of garbage:

hhhj

In 2016, Michael Lucas wrote an op-ed that was simultaneously published by both Out Magazine and Breitbart (it appears Lucas pitched it to both outlets, and they both ran it), and in this one, Lucas defends gay Republicans who are voting for Donald Trump. While there was no overt racism here, his defense of gay Republicans speaks for itself (Lucas famously announced his support of Mitt Romney in 2012), as he falsely claimed that gay Republicans were being “denied” an opposing opinion:

And it’s not only individual members of the LGBT community who are denying gays their right to an opposing opinion. Just last week, a leading LGBT magazine published a column by someone who concluded that although PayPal founder Peter Thiel has sex with other men, he should not be considered gay, because he’s a Republican who has endorsed Trump. Who is in charge of devising these bizarre litmus test?

Another quick reminder: it was gay media outlets like Out and The Advocate that gave racist Michael Lucas a platform to spout his racism for years, with The Advocate in particular publishing dozens of his “commentary” articles from 2010 to 2013, including one in which he called a Mosque in New York City a “monument to terrorism.” His columns for both the Here Media publications appear to finally have stopped last year, and now he’s been relegated to the white supremacist site Breitbart, where he’s interviewed frequently and routinely published, and was expressing more Islamophobia last month.

Despite his brazen bigotry being on full display for years, Michael Lucas and his studio are routinely nominated for dozens of awards at the Cybersocket, XBiz, and GayVN ceremonies, and he’s in fact up for dozens more at all these shows in January. Lucas has been allowed to continue for years because his horrible movies somehow make money, with XBiz, AVN, and all the gay porn blogs (except this one, obviously) promoting his movies (most of which are filmed in foreign countries, so as to avoid being sued here in the states for fraud and non-payment) and turning a blind eye to his racism and xenophobia.

So, while calling out awards shows for their racially insensitive nomination process is a good place to start, directing some of the rightful outrage at an actual outright and shameless racist like Michael Lucas—who creates content that, like it or not, is financially beneficial for the industry—might be the more meaningful approach for creating real change. If the gay porn industry and fans of gay porn do care about racism, they’ll stop supporting and awarding someone who’s been engaged in hate speech for as long as he’s been in the public eye, and who is currently a featured author at a white supremacist website.

  • Xzamilloh

Slight correction, Zach, Romney ran in 2012. But other than that, it’s been a badly kept secret how horrible the gay community is with dealing with racism.

    • Zachary Sire

      thanks, corrected.

      • Hmmm… Where was all of this indignation about racism in the industry when you posted that fluff piece on the Justice League parody without mentioning that Alter Sin replaced the only black character in the movie with Colby Keller, who was playing a character that didn’t even make a cameo? All that attention to detail, costumes and special effects but they forgot to include the black character, that by the way stopped the end of the world. Say what you will about Lucas, but he’s featured more scenes with black and brown models in 2017 than Men has EVER. And sorry but it seems hypocritical on your part to harp on ML for his racism but give Alter Sin/Men a pass for having XL play two black characters in the Civil War parody instead of, I don’t know – hiring TWO black actors. Or when McNamara cast very white Colton Grey to play an aboriginal person in the Pirates parody.

      • n24rc

        ??

  • FrenchBug

And Hugh Hunter, who is earning himself a lot of kudos and attention for (rightfully) calling out racism in the industry through a pointless stunt (that has the merit of launching the discussion) is one of the few remaining American performers still working regularly with Lucas.

    • Xzamilloh

The only thing working for Michael Lucas is that his scenes have been more diverse (NOW) and there are models of all colors, but that hardly makes up for what he subjects them to, or the ones who still sign on knowing good goddamn well what kind of person he is.

      • FrenchBug

I can’t state this as a fact since I don’t know but I highly highly suspect that part of why Lucas’ casts are so diverse is because the PoC who tragically can’t get work in other studios and the foreign performers he hires are paid less and therefore cheaper for him to film.

I will absolutely give him that he has always featured good-looking black and Latino men in his productions and never, as far as I can remember, in a way that would be tokenistic. He should be commended for that.
But only exhibiting one kind of racism rather than the whole cesspool does not make it better.

          • sexnando

that has always bothered me in str8upgayporn, where’s the timtales articles at??!!!! i’ve seen very very few of them…

i understand that it is not an USAmerican studio, but neither is belami

        • Hari Kalyan

Isnt that something! ML is doing more for diversity in porn than most of the major studios. Yet he is a trash human being. Meanwhile Tim Kruger is doing the same for diversity but he’s a complete sweetheart who doesn’t get enough credit.

          • Nordschleife

I agree Tim gets no love.

          • FrenchBug

TimTales is my favorite porn website. When all else fails, I can get off on their stuff, even when the guys aren’t my type. It is that good kind of porn/sex.

          • Ninja0980

            I agree.
His scenes are hot and no one is treated as a token.
Just beautiful men of all races having amazing sex.

          • Hari Kalyan

Right! Its always filmed and edited well (my pet peeve), the tops clearly know what they’re doing and the bottoms are always insatiable. Like have you seen Tim’s latest discovery, that hot muscle bottom Henrik Sommers? (not sure if he’s done porn anywhere else) I was gonna give my favorite bottom of the year to either Andy Star or Dakota Young, but Henrik is definitely making me reconsider.

          • Sure, TK is sweet…. that’s a laughable ridicule…

        • Ninja0980

          Indeed.
IMO, if the other studios hadn’t been so horrible with POC, he’d have been gone long ago.

    • jackson803

FrenchBug, when’s the last time Hugh Hunter did a scene for Lucas Entertainment? I’m not actively looking at scenes for that studio, but I think you have him confused with Tomas Brand (who isn’t even American).

      • FrenchBug

His last released scene is in 2016. Granted, I was under the impression that he had worked more recently for him – his hubby Dolf Dietrich’s last LE credit dates from late 2016 – but considering that ML’s anti-Muslim racism had been well documented by then, the point entirely stands.

  • ANTSLC

This just reiterates a point I made in a post a little while ago regarding the need for a self-regulating union type of organization that oversees gay porn and sets and would ultimately make directors and provocateurs like Lucas irrelevant. Impose moral clauses, get these cancers out.

  • As much as I love Str8UpGayPorn, I often wonder why we never see coverage of studios like FlavaWorks, BreedItRaw, BlackBoyAddictionz, DawgPound etc, even in the “new releases” column. Why is that?

    • iLoveEggplant

If it is white put it in the spotlight (whether it is good or bad and there has been LOTS of bad studios) if it is black it goes to the back….

    • nick

DawgPound has some scorching hot guys

      • sxg

Hell fucking yea! Sarge is one of my all-time favorites from there. I really believe if he wanted to, he could have worked in more mainstream studios and would have been well received.

    • zetan

Yet affiliate links of Mindgeek craps, incest site FamilyDick, rape site FraternityX… are literally everywhere. You can’t help feeling something is fishy about all of this. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/2b2fa4a14b75b0b0557107a767de51087508c4720a4b38d60a00b23d1a483fd8.png

    • sxg

I was going to write a post bringing this up on the ethnic category story, but I’ve been busy playing Pokemon Go during my off-hours. It’s double experience points and stardust until the 2nd of December! https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/72e1050e00506d94a2e67c5890e61e72e58fe831c0b888a0146f9d3941fa2f7b.gif
While Zach does do a great job of finding and bringing attention to racism in the gay porn industry, I can’t help but throw some side eye seeing a discussion of a category full of studios this blog almost NEVER talks about/promotes. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/164ad7cc338a739f7fc2d94294a2ffb67b75ae66872436dbe732bfb54ee4ae16.gif
To stay on topic though, maybe the reason why a studio like duckface’s gets a pass for all their insane bullshit is because they’ve been better at hiring minority models? Duckface isn’t afraid of doing interracial scenes, and hiring more than one model of color for any of his films/series. He’s even hired middle eastern men for his films (where do you think Israeli men are from?). But let’s be real here today’s duckface studios is not the one of the past. He hires more international models and men of other ethnicities because he has very little choice. He’s screwed so many American models and has faced countless issues that he has to film outside the US and find relative newcomers who haven’t heard of his nefarious ways of running his studio.

But let’s not forget that other studios and directors are not -racist-free either. You have other directors like Chi Chi and Mr. Pam that have a let-them-be-racists mentality when it comes to their white models. You have Raging Falcon House creating a Pro-Trump-themed film, producing their first films in NOLA (Deep South) with no black people and putting the only 2 minorities together in the one that’s just starting to be released, and they had a black man play a demon where all they did was blur his character. And until recently, much-beloved CockyBoys has had a long black model drought that rivaled Hot House. Also Trenton Ducati, who supported a known Nazi, still manages to have tremendous amount of support from consumers and producers of gay porn.

So if we are going to call out duckface for his blatant racism and Republican party support, we have to call out ALL other racism in the gay porn industry as well as those who in the past and/or present support parties/politicians that are against the LGBT community. We can’t demand the Roy Moore/Donald Trump of the gay porn industry to be banished but then ignore Harvey Weinsteins and Kevin Spaceys in the industry as well.

    • CamCam

I’m not a fan of 95% of the Black Gay porn sites out here BUT they should be covered as much as all the other gay sites on the web. We want to see there not be a segregation on people in an award show but yet the work of those places in the “ethnic” category isn’t being covered like a regular mainstream site unless they’re in an interracial scene on CockyBoys or Falcon and places like St8UpGayPorn has to do better too.

  • Devin

Oh please. He’s not saying anything that most people aren’t thinking. America tries to be PC, but this country was built on racism and is still very racist. Let’s not kid ourselves. Our fucking president has the same views about Muslims as Michael Lucas.

    • Ed Woody

Oh well, if the president is racist too, then that must be alright. Thanks!

      https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/082207bb7db9ac6dfd0457dd40a9a6e711826ce7854eb84f610d87c24f791a44.jpg

(with apologies for the bad grammar, blame the internet, not me)

      • Devin

You completely missed the point. The point is that this man won a presidential fucking election. Now consider what that means for just a second. You need more than a handful of people in your corner to become president of the fucking United States. It’s no secret that Donald is racist. Didn’t matter. The people voted for him. He still won. It speaks volumes about this country and its people

    • WyattTF

You mean they both recognize Islam for the brutal, primitive, oppressive cult that it is? Good. More people need to wake up and realize Islam is incompatible with our nation.

  • n24rc

Does it make me more “evolved” if i dislike both Muslims(I’m atheist, All religions are bad) and Lucas?

They both try to be martyrs for causes that undermine basic human rights, and individual freedoms – But that is just my take on the whole thing.

Considering that the faith is largely anti gay, per his assessment, you’d think he’d be equally harsh on Russia and Putin for their attacks on American Democracy. But again, Lucas is some trumptard with no loyalties to any nation or faith, just his own god – Money.

He’s the WORST kind of person, in my mind than some Terrorist, he’s a hypocrite.

    • Xzamilloh

There’s a huge difference between being anti-Islam (of which I am) and anti-Muslim, because one targets a belief system and the other targets the believers. Michael Lucas takes the usual conservative approach that works on the grosses of cognitive dissonances because you have one group condemning a fundamentalist conservative sect of a religion that is a hop and a skip away from the fundamentalist conservative brand of their own religion/ideology. The goal should be to empower the secular Muslims to push their brand of Islam that we have here in America that treats their religion as indifferently as the majority of Christians do

      • n24rc

Secularism isn’t tolerance. When polled, most religious people want laws made in fashion to their respective religious observations. No such thing as with the word salad you’re talking about, most people are either secular or not, take the nutcases in Alabama that do mental hopscotch about the behaviors of their own leaders in relation to others. It’s no different, they all want theocracies.

        • Xzamilloh

“Word salad”…. sorry I even bothered commenting to your closed minded ass.

      • WyattTF

You’re doing some phenomenal hair splitting there. You can’t condemn Islam while embracing Muslims. Muslims as individuals make up the Islamic faith. They are equally distructive and at odds with a free, modern, democratic nation.

        • n24rc

I agree, all of religion too attached to reductive and medevil thinking. Besides, all religions plagiarized some form of earlier faiths and dead myths. So It’s not like they have a chain of command on the direct word of god, just based on archeological evidence also.

        • Xzamilloh

So did you not read the last part or…. what? 2 billion Muslims in the world, Islam isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, but it pays to empower the moderates and the feelgoods who are willing to adopt the same hypocritical and intellectually conflicting view of their faith in the same way most Christians have in the world. I can condemn Christianity while embracing the Christians who don’t look at their faith as a means to impose their morality on others or who want to legislate their sky fairy, and the same with Muslims, who unfortunately have an alarming amount of liberals defending the bad elements at every turn inadvertently through shutting down any criticism of Islam. It’s not about “embracing Muslims”, it’s about embracing modern benign interpretations.

Also, Muslims who believe regressive things about LGBT people, women, other religions? I can’t do anything about that, but I can point out the fallacies and contradictions in their faith and hopefully show others the issues that they aren’t willing to address because they’re so worried about hurting the feelings of people under the guise of being accepting.

          • n24rc

I also read that the non-affiliated and secularists are at 1.4 billion in the world. They aren’t going anywhere too.

          • Xzamilloh

And I hope that number increases to 7 billion. Because this shared delusion of a sky fairy is really detrimental to a lot of people’s existences, especially of the LGBT variety. But a but now God is better than a fundamentalist God because neither exist but at least one isn’t advocated for us to be thrown off a roof or shunned from our families

  • ALM-76

Islam isn’t a race. It’s a backward ideology that’s brutal to woman and gays and practices slavery to this day. Michael Lucas does seem awful, but even a broken clock…

  • Kaylee B

Islam isnt a race!…..and gays defending Islam is like jews defending Nazi’s, beyond stupid.

  • WyattTF

The irony of a gay porn website caping so hard for Muslims….it’s just too sad/pathetic to fully comprehend. They are not our friends.

    • n24rc

I wouldn’t go as far as that, I think this site has a fair amount of evidence to support the claim that ML is just being a prick and selectively choosing his battles against Muslims, all the while ML is claiming that gay “liberal” media is censoring his views on Muslims…this is shown as NOT true.

He’s even shown in his past to suppress someone else’s free speech when there was a panel discussion about the West Bank settlements in Israel at a local gay community center. Again, what a MAJOR hypocrite for being a porn producer and advocating for denying the right for public discourse on the topic.

  • Xzamilloh

Excuse me, I was busy throwing out ad hominem attacks before you so rudely pointed out that your comment was not personal. I don’t appreciate you making me feel bad about it.

    • n24rc

What’s to feel bad about? Your beliefs are your own business. It’s ONLY when you take it to the infrastructure and foundation of the laws that effect everyone…it’s my business.

      • Xzamilloh

The thing is, I am an atheist too and I do agree with a lot of the things you are saying. But I am also being realistic and how religion works and I know that Islam and Christianity are not going anywhere anytime soon. I advocated for secularism and Atheism, but I also realized that a benign form of these religions is a hell of a lot better than the form of fundamentalism that we see so much in the world

        • n24rc

The benign side of those religions are almost non-existent, as those who adopt more ideological views in line with secularism realize that those texts are filled with inaccuracies and downright copying from dead faiths and religions. They largely represent a time that was brutal and people needed religion to endure those harsh conditions and realities.

          • Xzamilloh

And that’s the type that I advocate for, because if you notice modern-day Christians are so far removed from Christianity it’s not even funny. So I will gladly come back them on an intellectual level, but overall I’d much rather deal with a hypocritical Christian than a Christian who actually believes the crap in the Bible

          • n24rc

Those people are usually non-affiliated or secular in nature. Totally different.

          • Xzamilloh

That’s a weak point, though. It’s the No True Scotsman, and although you could argue that the fundamentalists have the closest to accurate interpretation of the scriptures, the age old adage applies: Put every Christian in the world in one place and ask them which Christians aren’t real Christians, and you’d have NO real Christians. Same with Muslims and Jews, because when your ideology is based on contradictory desert aged fables, things are open to be selectively read/ignored

I still contend that I’d rather deal with an intellectually dishonest Christian/Muslim who chooses to embrace the peace in their text (that takes some serious cognitive dissonance) than the ones who actively practice that shit. I don’t mention belief, because one can believe the harmful parts of the text while not practicing it, like the percentage of Muslims that support jihadism or that gays should be executed. Those are immoral people and I want to call them out for what they believe, but their beliefs alone aren’t harming us… it’s when/if they act on them that the harm manifests into reality. It sucks, I know, but we don’t live in a perfect reality where everything is cut and dry

  • AJ

Meh. I don’t agree with what he says but he’s entitled to his opinions and to say what he wants. Live and let live. I don’t like how we on the left are becoming totalitarian and intolerant of others. That’s what the right wingers have traditionally done to us. Let’s not be like them.

  • Yogibear

Lucas’ studio porn sucks in my opinion, but I enjoy his onlyfans. His political opinions are definitely toxic, though. I understand that he does not feel that Islam is exactly supportive of gays and wants to speak out on that, but i think he crosses a certain line and demonizes Muslims which I do not like.

  • Kevin Britton

Islam is NOT a race. Speaking against Muslims is not racism. It may be bigoted against the religion and/or downright stupid, but it is not racist. Let’s not water the word down by throwing it where it shouldn’t be thrown.

  • Richard

Now wait a second. As our country systematically mows down Muslims illegally on our tax dollars, anyone claiming Michael bothers their moral integrity is beyond hope. He’s only repeating what the veiled rhetoric on all our news is saying day in day out and what we are all funding. In a democracy (har har), carrying out war crimes makes us all complicit. American military contractors must maintain a boogeyman. Look out Russians. You’re next.
