[UPDATED] Straight Porn Star August Ames Has Died

Posted December 6, 2017 by with 147 comments

5a284219c5226-augustamesnewStraight porn star August Ames—who made news on Monday after announcing that she had pulled out of a recent shoot due to her male co-star having performed in gay porn—has died, according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner. Via AVN:

Adult star August Ames passed away Tuesday, the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed this morning. The cause of her death was not confirmed at post time, but Ames was 23.

“She was the kindest person I ever knew and she meant the world to me,” said her husband, director Kevin Moore. “Please leave this as a private family matter in this difficult time.”

A native of Canada, Ames is a two-time AVN Award-winner with more than 270 credits since her debut in 2013. She earned a nomination in 2015 for AVN Best New Starlet, and was a nominee every year since for Female Performer of the Year, including in the current race for the upcoming 2018 AVN Awards.

The adult industry was in shock upon hearing the news Wednesday as several industry members took to Twitter to offer condolences.

Ames, who was also the September 2016 Vixen Angel, won the fan-voted AVN Awards for Cutest Newcomer (2015) and Most Spectacular Boobs (2017).

Update:

Late Wednesday, it was confirmed that Ames took her own life, and died from “asphyxia due to hanging.” Via IBTimes:

The Ventura County Health Care Agency confirmed Grabowski’s death Wednesday evening. “Mercedes Grabowski died of asphyxia due to hanging. Manner is suicide,” the agency’s public information officer told International Business Times.

Some of Ames’ fans (as well as plenty of anonymous, anti-gay Twitter trolls) on social media are falsely accusing members of the gay community—who took issue with Ames’ tweets—of being responsible for Ames’ suicide. While some responding to Ames used extreme language that crossed the line of polite discourse (as is often the case on social media), most disagreement with Ames’ tweets was just that: Disagreement. Anyone who stands up to homophobia and reasonably questions public statements that spread misinformation is not doing anything wrong, and can’t logically be held accountable for whatever the source of that misinformation chooses to do later, however tragic. That said, Ames’ death is in fact tragic, and Str8UpGayPorn offers its sincere condolences to her family, fans, and peers.

They going blame the gay porn industry for her death I guess she couldn’t take the backlash and she took her own life that stupid May she rest in peace

      • Isiah Singleton

These homophobia straight men going to blame us for her death I know they going after those gay porn stars who went against her so Zach be careful They should not blame the gay Porn industry they should blame her for taking her own life

        • hatefulmoz

I have a huge issue with the fact that the highest liked post on that thread is another actress assigning blame to all those who criticized her (including GP stars) for even trying to address her stupid ass comments.

I agree. She is solely responsible if she, in fact, took her own life. That someone would use this as an opportunity to assign blame for killing herself is irresponsible.

          • Zachary Sire

By that logic—that people who questioned her homophobic tweets are responsible for her suicide—then she would be equally responsible for every gay performer who kills himself because of her tweets accusing them of having STDs for what they “do in their private lives.”

          • Isiah Singleton

Zachary you better be careful. Because the homophobic straight people are going to go after you and blame you and many others for her death she shouldn’t have a tweet that homophobic thing at all I went on her Instagram account some people is blaming the gay community for her death

          • hatefulmoz

Exactly. I am cognizant that there has been a loss of life, and it is upsetting to the people that cared and loved her. But that doesn’t excuse the comments that she made (at least for me), and the damage that it does to our community.

I wish that she had gotten the attention she clearly needed to help fight her demons, if in fact she died by her own hand.

        • HIkkI78909

You seem very adamant about protecting gays from catching any blame. Did you tweet something nasty at her, by any chance?

I saw this tweet on my TL and thought it was a joke about how her career was dead or something but I clicked the link and saw she was really dead… https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/4a133c0516eb3b3ef1deee8c6edb26227023bd53d8269533c631fd109f9ec8b3.gif
Didn’t agree with her views on crossover stars but she was a person and I’m sure people loved and cared for her so RIP August.

  • Galaxy_Scribe

I mean, if she did kill herself over one day of angry Twitter comments, it was only a matter of time.

    • John Doe

Wondering if you’d say this to her family…

  • wdeee

This is also why I am so cautious about joining in on Twitter dogpile jumping situations when someone says something offensive/ignorance. Sure it’s bad but I could never have it on my conscience that maybe 1 tweet from me pushed someone to end their life. We’re all human and we aren’t perfect at all. We have to figure out a much more effective and humane way of dealing with ignorance than throwing insults and being petty.

    • Your compassion and reason gives me hope in this dark era where too many social media users deploy the bull in a china shop tactics of tabloid journalists, and give no consideration to what the long-term human cost might be.

We are all fighting our own battles and are more complex and nuanced than the labels we and others attach to ourselves.

      • wdeee

        Thank you.

    • moondoggy

That’s also why I try to remember to talk about porn performers as if they might be reading what I say, and I absolutely separate how I feel about someone’s appearance from their actual value as a human being. I never want someone to feel demeaned by something I said. In fact, most of the time, I only criticize stars and studios for the choices they make.

Which brings us to this. This woman made a choice to use a public platform to say something ignorant, and people had every right to criticize her. And there is no way that something someone said on a message board played a rational role in this woman’s death. If it played any role at all, it had to be piggybacking on some extraordinary insecurities and even perhaps mental health issues.

      • Ben Gordon

“Which brings us to this. This gay man made a choice to use a public platform to say something ignorant, and people had every right to criticize him. And there is no way that something someone said on a message board played a rational role in this gay mans death. If it played any role at all, it had to be piggybacking on some extraordinary insecurities and even perhaps mental health issues.” You fucking hyportical cunt

      • Thank you for absolutely all of this. Fair, balanced, respectful and neither unnecessarily apologetic nor defensive. This comment is a class act.

      • John Doe

We can’t say queer kids are bullied to death and then look away when a female sex worker with depression is the focus of thousands of tweets demeaning her and she hangs herself.

Suicide isn’t a one source thing, but the twitter hate played a role in her death.

        • moondoggy

I agree to an extent, but look at all the dissimilarities in your comparison. The hypothetical queer kids are targeted for who they are, not for what they said. And they also are not performing naked for their living. Nothing wrong with doing that, but there’s no way around the increased scrutiny it invites.

I in no way condone violence, verbal or otherwise. But she was not just a sex worker taking clients in private and being singled out. She was a video star taking a hypocritical public stand. If that was an expression of mental illness, then that is unfortunate. But that’s not the fault of people defending aforesaid queer kids from a clear insinuation that gay identity is uniquely disease prone.

    • G. Lo

Vitamin D needs to be put in the water, this shit is getting ridiculous.

    • hatefulmoz

I understand your larger sentiment of compassion, but take umbrage at the implication that one tweet pushes someone over the edge. It completely misdirects that August clearly had mental issues that she needed to address, and unfortunately did not seek the help she needed to combat her illness. Ultimately, the has the agency to decide whether to cope with her illness or choose to take her own life, and we all saw how that ended up.

Additionally, it places significant blame of people who decided to engage with her regarding her opinions. Regardless of whether you and I agree or disagree with everything that was said to her, it is a huge burden to place someone’s legitimate death on the fact that they made a twitter comment.

      • I agree with almost absolutely all of this, but just want to push back a little on a casual but unhelpful assumption that people make all the time in things like this: that she didn’t seek out the help she needed.

We don’t know what help she asked for, we don’t know what access she even had to that help, and there’s a very real possibility that she was getting help and it ultimately wasn’t enough. I live in a country with blanket access to these things and was lucky enough to find programmes that worked for me, but I have several friends who receive professional mental health support and for whom there’s still a chance that one bad day will undo it all.

The only reason that comment isn’t helpful is because we need to stop assuming that suicide victims didn’t have support and instead start looking at the level of care available to them, and how we can make it better.

        • hatefulmoz

I would clarify and say that I have a certain perception based on my own experiences of dealing with aftermath of lost friends wherein even if they had access to treatment, and were taking medications and such – if they ultimately took their lives, then the mission failed… we didn’t get though to them.

Given that context, I understand where you are coming from and how the comment gives off that implication and assumption that she didn’t seek help. That isn’t helpful, and automatically diminishes any assistance or treatment she was receiving.

    • Devin

Exactly. I was just commenting that I’m glad I kept my previous comments respectful. I tend to go in the opposite direction of the crowd. So called “dragging” people on social media doesn’t boost me up in any way. People are still being petty in her death, but I’m not surprised

    • cluelesswitness

Half the negativity she received was so vile. I would read some of the tweets and ask myself what is this suppose to accomplish. You telling her she is a piece of shit isn’t going to magically make her less homophobic. It would be one thing if people just disagreed with her, but they were dragging her. And we live in a world now where reading someone for filth is not only the norm it’s become a spectator’s sport.

    • John Doe

Exactly. What she said was dumb, but people need to take the hurt they feel when they encounter something like that and articulate it and disarm the situation. Then if it can’t be a productive conversation, walk away.

  • PaulieP

    whoa….

  • Dave

If her death was in fact suicide, then there was definitely more going on than a single tweet she posted. While any death of someone so young is tragic, seeing all the people coming out blaming Wesley Woods and others for standing up to her original tweet is absurd. Not to cast blame, but she did begin this whole issue herself with her original tweet. She could have come out and apologized after she posted it, but she stood by it and just enraged people even more. What really irks me is everybody calling the people who replied to her tweet bullies when in fact the bullying began with her original post. While some of the comments to her were out of line and ridiculous, most people do know what to expect when you post on Twitter at this time.

    • Ben Gordon

Okay then the same logic applies to any faggot that kills himself, no one is to blame

  • Xzamilloh

Austin Wilde is catching a lot of unnecessary flak for this on Twitter, and his account is locked (I can still see his tweets, though). It’s unfortunate she took her own life, but no one is to blame for this, at all. When you get on social media as an adult, you accept the responsibility that your thoughts and opinions are out there for the world to see, and if you don’t want them scrutinized, it’s best you don’t share them or put them behind a wall, like some do.

What I see happening on Twitter is a lot of right wing pundits politicizing her suicide as a smear on the left (and gays) that we are a bunch of bullies that drove her to suicide because of her choices, as if any tweet Zach posted remoted told her that she should be forced to work with models that have done gay porn. Those tweets were criticizing and lampooning her ignorant tweet, and I am sorry but death does not remove what she put out there. Call it callous all you want, but you can’t sit here arguing for free speech until it doesn’t fit your narrative.

What’s really fucked up is that the people commenting the most on her death probably didn’t even know who she was before that, and just see her as a weapon against their enemies. Again, it’s sad that August Ames is dead, but the blame game is not only fruitless, but completely unwarranted.

    • Isiah Singleton

I see those disgusting tweets he not the only one getting harassed Bruce, Logan Moore, Wesley Wood Jaxson Weeler and many other gay porn stars who against her I think it’s better to keep two porn industries separate

      • Phresh

Whoever that person is threatening Logan, trust and believe I would love for him to come at me that way. I’d even slide him my address, so we can really settle this like some gentlemen.

    • Ben Gordon

“It’s unfortunate she took her own life, but no one is to blame for this” but what about when gay people kill themselves ? EVERYONE IS TO BLAME YOU PUSHED THEM TO DO IT YOU HOMOPHOBES SOCIETY DID THIS BULLIES ON TWITTER DID THIS, look you little fag, You cant have it both ways, The gay community on twitter pushed her to suicide clear as day, And if you disagree, Then you can’t ever blame a lgbt suicide on anyone else ever again, You are disgusting

    • Dulcis Memoria

I don’t recall much respectful compassion from the Right Wing after the deaths of Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, etc.

  • Scrapple

What. The. Fuck. First I thought it was real, then a joke, then back to real. It’s sad that if she did take her own life her previous mental condition was triggered by this backlash. At the same time, she tried to blacklist another performer and create a backlash against him. Fucked up all around, but certainly nothing worth giving up your young life for. If you mean what you say, stand by it. If you feel your comments were taken in a manner you didn’t intend, apologize. Either way, move on and go about your business. Do not put yourself in a position where you allow anyone, in the real world or the online world, to have so much power over you that you feel you have to harm yourself. I’m sure many of us have been there but thankfully we escaped that tragic outcome. People are going to like you. People are going to dislike you. There will even be people who despise you and wish you nothing but evil. But you have to live for yourself, not others. Life is so much better when you’re not focused on seeking approval and validation from others.

    • Nicholas Butler

You make a very good point.

  • Phresh

Sad that she passed away, but what we’re not going to do is put blame everywhere, but where it should be. She out of nowhere decided to put her ignorance out there, and was rightfully called out on it. Idgaf what she does with her body, her breast or Vagina, that’s her choice like anyone else, so lets not STRAIGHT IGNORANT DUMBASSES try to make it about that. No is saying she HAS to have sex with male performers that have done gay sex, again her choice, but dont try and put that homophobic stigma out there that Gays are a walking disease/STD and just out there having random sex without protection or tests.

Its like that saying goes, if you cant handle the heat, then get out of the kitchen. She should have kept her ignorance to herself, plain and simple.

  • Badbike

Well this is a fucking plot twist, god damn!

Mean old Zach Sire cyber bullied some dumb slut on twitter to death… https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/3f2d5880f26e684e92200bd90fafe02d9272b03ff46e6db3b46a4a4c414e62ab.gif

RIP to this young lady and I sincerely mean it, irrespective of her views That being said, “the gays” have been blamed for AIDS, high divorce rates, moral decline of media, gender confusion, propagating mental illness, children being predated on, decline of Western civilization, San Francisco’s views on immigration, shortage of size 16 heels for women, and whatever else society-at-large wants to pin on a maligned, marginalized group. So I refuse to apologize for the shields-up response of myself or anyone in the community to yet another ignorant soul who had a lot to say. If you’re an ignorant heterosexual with an ignorant opinion about our community that you have the stones to air on social media, the gloves are off. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/3f0649eb32212efa18fc997c1089317198c145e839617906ae53a30788fcfb08.gif

  • FrenchBug

Contrarily to the claims by some, the blowback was intense but was mostly intended on proving her wrong and pointing out the invalidity and bigotry of her initial point: point she DID NOT HAVE TO MAKE PUBLICLY. As Long Moore said, she could have put them on her no list and leave at that.
If you choose to air an opinion that you know to be controversial on a public forum, you have to expect a response.

That being said, in the midst of reasonable counterpoints from Logan Moore or Austin Wilde, Jaxton Wheeler literally tweeted she should kill herself.
Clearly, she didn’t take her own life just because of that tweet but don’t expect me to feel bad for him if it is his turn in the hot seat.
That was beyond appropriate, even not knowing her struggles with mental health and that kind of maliciousness does not wash with me, even directed at someone with whom I vehemently disagree.
May that be a reminder that behind the screennames are people with real feelings.

    • FrenchBug

And of course, the August Ames “fans” blaming “gays” for her death are kind of vindicating the point that the “gays” were making about homophobia in the first place.

    • Scrapple

That’s kind of stupid of Jaxton considering the whole RyRo thing and his buddy/roomie/fuckpartner Alexander Gustavo later killing himself. You literally just lived through seeing the potential ramifications of saying something like that and then you go and say it? What the fuck is wrong with people?

    • C A

Interesting that jaxton;s best friend took his life not that long ago. However, I think there is a lot more to this than her supposedly being cyber bullying. Most people were countering dangerous and homophobic falsehoods.

      • FrenchBug

Of course. A straight male performer (can’t remember which one at this moment) said in his homage tweet “I hope that now at least her struggle is over” indicating that whatever she was dealing with had been going on for a long time.
But I think most of us can agree there is some space between “The tweets killed her” and “We should have let spew homophobic nonsense unanswered” that does NOT include, say, encouraging her to swallow cyanide.

        • Ben Gordon

butt tweets kill gay people all the time ? if no one is to blame for her death, then no one is to blame for the gay suicides that happen either.

        • a b

          It was her brother’s homage

      • hatefulmoz

Many are alleging that she was battling depression.

        • C A

I think she was, I’m just pointing out that Jaxton made such a post to begin with knowing that isn’t an answer to anything. Also, she was the one trying to kill someone’s career with her initial post.

          • hatefulmoz

Sorry, I didn’t mean it to sound like I was casting doubt on whether or not she had committed suicide. I hadn’t found anything concrete until this post was updated yesterday, and I didn’t read anything other than what friends were posting about her struggling with it.

To your original points, I am really exhausted and frustrated by the fact that what she said and received responses for is now just considered bullying and thought policing. They really are thinking that people were bullying her into deciding what she should do with her body. I couldn’t be any more disappointed in the fact that so many people are not seeing the issue clearly at all.

I am disappointed in Jaxton’s post, and readily acknowledge that it is not constructive; but his tweets don’t represent how everyone interacted with her and disagreed with her viewpoint.

          • C A

This is true. If people were aware of her struggle then maybe they should have reached out to her, instead of fanning the flames. That Noelle Easton person was just throwing out ig ronde and adding to the stigma that people attach to gay/bi people and those who do crossover work. That is what truly kept it going. But, we don’t know how the people closest to her were treating her or her battle. It’s unfortunate, and people are raw right now, I don’t expect level heads to prevail anytime soon.

      • brandon dunarote

“”than her supposedly being cyber bullying”” read her twitter acc Gays led the charge in her cyberbulling (FACT)

    • John Doe

Gay porn production is not as consistent with testing as straight porn. That’s been reported on for years. Including by gay porn stars.

Was the way she talked about it dumb? Yes. But does she have every right to refuse letting someone fuck her when she doesn’t know his testing history or trust it? Absolutely. That could be said for a straight man as well, but in this instance she weighed the known facts about her costar working for multiple houses and felt it wasn’t safe.

I just can’t figure out beyond just being poorly expressed what the issue with the comment was. Someone points out that Billy Santoro is putting people at risk by injecting stuff into his dick before shooting a bareback scene and they’re a hero whistleblower. This girl was dumb about how she was calling out a concern she had and she gets eaten alive?

People got triggered from the homophobic tone of the comments, but there is zero doubt in my mind it escalated because she was a female sex worker and a bunch of juiced of men got their rage on and felt entitled to vent it on her. Abusing female sex workers is a tale as old as time and the entire gay porn community who participated in it against Ames or who are defending it should feel ashamed. And that doesn’t give her a pass. It just acknowledges the tragedy of it all.

      • FrenchBug

        1) If you are willing to assign an undercurrent of misogyny to the virulence of the reaction – not because of the substance of what was said but because you recognize a societal pattern – it is astonishing to me that you would not spot a similar homophobic pattern in her belief that performers having engaged in gay sex are riskier sexual partners. It is nice to be “woke” but you can’t be “woke” only part of the time. Either the response exists in a certain context that has to be recognized and then her initial comments do too. Or, if you choose to just take her literally, and in isolation, then you have to do the same for her critics.

        2) She has every right to refuse to have sex with any performer she wishes to. The fact she chose to publicize her choice to exclude a whole category of performers based on a single criteria was her making a statement about that category of performers. And, at the very least, people are also allowed to publicly debunk her statement in return. No one was seeking to convince her to make a different choice if she was not comfortable with it: they were telling her why this was not factually based and, whether she was aware of it, based on homophobic stereotypes.

        3) Her point makes no sense if the concern was about gay porn.
All performers in straight porn – gay, bi or straight – are tested the same exact way. So crossover actors could not be riskier for her than any other type of performer.
The key tell here is not she was not excluding people *currently filming* gay porn – which would be problematic but at least your argument about testing in gay porn being more lax would make more sense if there was risk her scene partner may had filmed something with someone untested the day before. She was excluding ANYONE having EVER filmed gay porn – including people that have been out of it for years (I strongly suspect Kyle Mason was the scene partner she turned down).
So that could not have been based on the testing regimen – that was based on her belief that gay men are 1) disease-ridden 2) promiscuous and that 3) anyone having had gay sex at some point is likely to exhibit that risky behavior. That is an explicitly homophobic trope.
And completely stupid, since there is no way to know what *any* of her scene partners get up to in their personal lives. Performers in straight porn may have gay bareback orgies in their spare time or fuck dirty female hookers in back alleys, and former performers from gay porn may go home to their wives and kids.
So, yes, it was dumb and while I do not believe she hated gay people or was consciously homophobic, there was an undercurrent of the general societal homophobia in her misguided beliefs.
And they were worth debunking, if not to change her mind, at least to educate people who may not know better.

        4) Jaxton Wheeler is still, at the end of this, a major asshole and her suicide, a tragedy.

  • Silver64

Living with Depression is something I’ve lived with most my life. It even came to the point I contemplated suicide, and it doesn’t take just a day or two to come up with the idea. There’s a lot of soul searching and agonizing over finding any reason not to do it. I was lucky having friends that wouldn’t let me push them away.

I feel that the reaction to her Tweet is the thing that pushed her over the edge, but speaking from personal experience, unless she found the help she needed, it would probably have been only a matter of time before something else triggered her.

Regarding her last Tweet “fuck y’all”. I feel that it gave her an out, blaming everyone else for her death, totally absconding any responsibility on her part.

Her life could not have been a happy one if all it took was 2 Days to decide to end it all, and for that reason, regardless of her opinions, I feel bad for her.

  • Drunky McDrunkerson

but yet 45, McConnell, Pence and Ryan still seem to not off themselves no matter how much hate they get. So sad.

Bitter ass bitches. There is a time and place for everything. If you think this is the time or place to behave this way, then you’re just as fucked as her.

If I thought someone was an asshole when they were alive, I see no reason to suddenly say they were an angel now that they’re dead. That’s just socially approved hypocrisy.

      • Edward

You are not obligated to literally say every inane thought you have. Jesus. That would be like going to someone’s wedding and when the priest/pastor asks if anyone objects or knows of a reason for the couple not to marry..speak. Then you stand up and put in your two cents. NOT THE VENUE. No one can change the past. What’s done has been well documented. You can control whether or not you decide to be asshole-ish.

You sure she took her own life and not contracted a super deadly strain of STD from one of those former gay pornstars she worked with and didn’t do her homework on? https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/b7188a406392d6edea5a954a2b2e02df248a6a623fbef0c902dfe71e729060f4.gif

  • WhimsyCotton

I’m sorry, but I’m not going to pretend I give a fuck. Only someone with a pampered life would kill themselves over a fucking day’s worth of earned negativity. God forbid she face a real hardship. Worse still, all the fucking hypocritical homophobes are going to jump at this like starving lions and make her a martyr for their political bullshit. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/b0cd24be545f19d89ac09a139c48fa4a2d3aea11e2ca73036ccec691f55901c1.gif

    • Carolyn Grace Riley

      you are gross. stop it

    • brandon dunarote

so it’s ok to bully people?

    • Rob36

      That’s a grim comment.

    • Not the way suicide works, darling. Put your ass away before more people see it.

      • WhimsyCotton

I didn’t say it was, but it was clearly the trigger for hers. My comment was aimed at the trigger being her own doing.

Sorry that I’m an ass for being honest.

        • Maximus

It would be a mistake to presume that the social media backlash was the cause of her suicide. If she had been suffering from depression and suicidal ideation for awhile, then the controversy could have merely been incidental. We won’t know unless there’s enough information available to perform a psychological autopsy.

    • zit_remedy

ha! you’re such a total bitch (!), but – as someone who’s lived through … and, with damned hard work, overcome hardship and the worst sorts of abuse, who lived with depression and anxiety every moment of every day, i totally fucking agree with you!
      ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • bob80

Some people are just too narcissistic to ignore social media. It’s fucking twitter FFS, the most retarded platform on the internet. Personally if I didn’t like what I saw I’d just log out. Problem solved.

  • Kayla Taylor

You caused her death. Own up to it.

  • brandon dunarote

Tomorrow me and my friends will bully all fags in my school in honor of August Ames.

  • TheLisp

  • Devin

So glad my comments about her were respectful and not petty. That’s what being an adult is about. Some of you are childish and have no class. Don’t think you’re better than her. You’re just trash.

    • a b

The same bullshit belief about HIV and LGBT people are what backs the blood donation ban. She didn’t deserve to die, but please don’t talk like she did no wrong.

  • brandon dunarote

August Ames is dead because gays bullied her. how does this make you feel?

  • Jason

    Sorry not sorry

    • Rob36

not your best comment I’m sure

  • Heauxme

    This is so sad.
BTW Markolebeau and izaLxxxdirector(director)<—both on twitter are responsiple for the current wave of women and the hetero nonsense storyines in MEN scenes, and the ones hiring the gay for pay guys (william seed, ryan bonesxxx<—who just filmd a straight scene) It all made sense, you have a lesbian directing gay porn and a guy that had his own site, but now works for men that was a straight worshiper! I just wish the gay porn industry had more gay men, maybe we wouldn't be in this type of mess where female porn stars have this type of misconception and refuse to work with the straight guys that are done doing gay porn a la lucas knight, seth gamble and countless others. This industry is filled with self loathing, terrible.

  • theredviper

My first, second and third reaction were ‘What the f*ck!’… and on that note, what in the actual f*ck! :O

  • YandyDandy

Wait. So she took her own life because of what people had said on twitter? Firstly it was what SHE said that triggered the whole thing, and secondly I think she had bigger mental health issues before the twitter shit storm.
Its very sad when someone commits suicide, but blaming the gays (again) makes my eyes roll. The law states that gays can only be credited with the good things in life, everything bad that happens can be blamed on Trump or the Church.

  • Jason

As someone who was turned on today for disagreeing with August, I was told I was responsible for her death and should have known she was vulnerable. I simply disagreed with her comments, and debated them with her. Under no circumstances would I EVER tell someone to kill themselves for a disagreeing view. Most of those that disagreed with her would not have down that either. What happened was very sad, but her comments were worthy of debate and disagreement, and she is not a martyr for these views.

    • hatefulmoz

      Agreed.

Overwhelmingly, and understandably, a lot of people who knew her and are vocalizing and processing their grief on twitter are very emotional. But I don’t think that them threatening physical harm on those who interacted or tweeted to her directly is fair.

What most disappointing is that many trolls are taking the opportunity to make something off-the-mark about why August really died. It’s so disingenuous.

  • emercycrite

    Meh. My heart weeps.

  • czer

The only one responsible for Ames’ suicide is Ames herself. She chose to take her own life for reasons known only to her. It’s likely she made several previous attempts that failed or were prevented. The backlash to her ridiculously stupid comments is a convenient scapegoat but in the end she killed her self, she is the only one to be held to account for such action.

  • Quinn

So when bullying is targeting gay people, it’s bad and we should have a cry for the poor victims of homophobia, but when it’s targeting a straight woman who refuse to have sex with a gay man (who is potentially fucking around everywhere, let’s be honest), it’s good.
But i guess gays stopped bareback sex & infecting others on purpose this year ?
And by looking at the comments, memes & gifs, some gay people are happy to see someone committing suicide.

    The irony.

    • hatefulmoz

Yes, it’s perfectly reasonable to make grand generalizations about an entire community based on the negative memes and gifs you’ve seen here as representative of the entire group.
      /s

No one targeted August for anything she chose or did not choose to do with her body. She made a comment which was seen as homophobic, and those that took issue with her implication questioned her comments (some clearly saying things they shouldn’t).

You supposition about someone’s alleged promiscuity on the basis of the sexual orientation is gross. Please take some time away from the keyboard to breathe.

      • Quinn

I don’t know if your not only stupid or just the most biased
hypocritical person i have ever met. It shows how cool you are with
someone taking his/her own life after being bullied – but only if the
bullying is coming for the gay community. You are disgusting.

It’s not like there are gay guys asking me very often on social media or in
clubs for unprotected sex, some of them having no problem to tell me
they have HIV and that’s “cool”. If you like these lowlifes, good for you, i don’t.

But i guess you are too privileged to see what’s happening in reality so i
suggest you to keep humping on your keyboard to spread your political
correctness. Maybe it will come true if you work very hard.
It’s because of people like yourself that we have a crazy Orange moron in the office.

        • hatefulmoz

So much to type to say nothing. Have good life.

          • Quinn

You should take your meds (and you should stop spreading STD’s too because i had aids reading you).
Have fun enjoying someone else suicide.

        • synnerman

What the fuck kind of gibberish is this? I hate to break it to you fuck face. Quiet gays die. Fuck you you suck-ass bitch. We aren’t going to let a suicidal porn star make us shut up about homophobia.

Get out of here with that mealy mouthed shit.

  • ANTSLC

I have so much trouble trying to comprehend why one would allow themselves to feel bullied online. Simply log off, disconnect. This is so senseless. I don’t think we know yet if she took her life because of the online “hate” but if the reason is true, this should be a lesson to everyone to just relax on the importance of “social media” – its nonsense plain and simple. Just nonsense. Online is such a crazy place that it should be easily avoidable to fall into these kinds of traps. Who cares if anonymous strangers say things about you – they’re nobodies, everybody is a nobody online. People put waaaay to much importance on social media and what it can/can’t do. If you take away it’s power by looking away, and logging off then it all just becomes nothing.

  • Estelle

Evil Angel, a studio that is in Jaxon Wheelers “wheelhouse” in terms of the content has put out a statement that they will no longer work with him because of this. I expect more to follow.

    • MXD

So straight people collectively ignore/forgive what she had said and use Jaxton as a scapegoat. All while ignoring the threats of violence that straight porn actors are directing at lgbtq people? Okay.

      • Estelle

I agree with the overall sentiment of your comments, but will say that Jaxton Wheeler hasn’t exactly been an a good ally for gay porn or LGBT issues in general.

He does a lot of work for kink and with the blowback they have had over the last few years with regard to the abuse of talent I can’t see them going forward with using him in the future. Then again this is porn where rapists and sociopaths regularly get a pass.

        • MXD

I checked out the twitter for eroticaX and noticed that they had shot with James Deen and I was really surprised. Deen has such a bad rep, I’m amazed that he’s still shooting

And, possibly unrelated, I never used to care that much about straight guys in gay porn, but lately I’ve been feeling more and more like a lot of them are just homophobes using gays for cash and then running off to straight porn. Their silence on this issue really amplifies the feeling. But that’s just me.

        • JohnnyVooDoo

I’m surprised you where the first person to point that out. Jaxton dislikes gay people and spits in our faces when ever he feels the need/want then turns around and calls us ‘Biphobic’ and all other kinds of shit. He treats gay people like his punching bag. He’s a bully.
Fuck that guy and his supporters. They are homophobic.

          • a b

What did he said against gay people?

  • JohnnyVooDoo

….legitimately who are these gay guys ? What gay man wants to honestly make straight porn. This is a bi-sexual males problem.

All I can see is Bieasure. What I find most funny is those same bi guys who scream/yell ‘bieasure’ attack/trash gay men every other time — have no problem with keeping thier mouths closed and throwing all of the slack on the gay label/term. This is flat out evil and manipulative.

Their will undeniably be some blow back behind this and it sure as hell wont effect the gay men working in gay porn.

    • MXD

I looked through the accounts of all of the crossover porn stars I can think of and they aren’t saying anything about her.

    • yatcho

If anything it was probably a straight guy doing g4p on the side

  • Luthor

This is so sad. Why do people have to be so mean when they don’t agree with one and other? RIP she was so young.
One question though. Her original tweet in this mess, was it because straight pornsites don’t HIV-test gay for pay actors who do straight porn?

    • a b

She believed gay porn studios don’t test actors.

  • Death to Madonna Fans! Allah A

So, because this girl didn’t want to make a scene with an HIV infected homosexual she’s a bad person? I think homosexuals should take into consideration that women have future concerns about their sexual health and reproductivity. Unlike homosexuals, women think about starting families and want to have kids one day. So, subjecting your body to having someone who’s very likely to have HIV and other diseases is counter to that wish. Women have families and futures to look forward to, unlike homosexuals who’ll likely be dead by 45 addicted to drugs with no kids. Sad that these vicious sodomites attacked this poor, confused girl. It won’t make their years of wasted life come back or any of their wrinkles go away or slowly emptying Grindr inboxes fill back up. You wasted your lives and will die alone whether you abuse women (and boys) or not.

  • AsherStClaire

Now everyone’s blaming Jaxton Wheeler for her death despite the fact that that’s not how mental health issues or suicide really works. Don’t get me wrong, I doubt that it helped but if she actually went through with it she was probably suffering for a loooooooooong time. And not only that, but the shitstorm was a direct result of her homophobic statement, and yes it’s homophobic.

And not only that but people are comparing this to the case of Michelle Carter who convinced her boyfriend to commit suicide. The two cases are RADICALLY different, Michelle Carter was actually walking her boyfriend to commit suicide while he was in the process of doing it and convinced him to follow through with when he decided to back out. Jaxton tossed out a throwaway tweet that people do all the time.

    Ugh, goddammit people are stupid.

    • a b

She has bipolar disorder, multiple personalities disorder and was raped by her grandfather as a child. But who will get the blame? The Gays…

  • Marcus Collack

Empathy: For her and her family
    Sympathy: None to Give
Irony: Didn’t want to “put her body at risk.”

  • Furballvie

Who is the guy, she didn’t want to work with?

    • a b

Because The Gays are infested with AIDS, don’t cha know?

    • sexnando

      was it jaxton himself?

  • Nicholas Butler

I mean its understandable, she had the right to feel how she felt, and I’m saying this as a bisexual man myself (well im still…figuring things out). She should’ve stood by what she said, don’t ever let someone else have that much power over you that they push you to kill yourself. They won.

On a side note, It’s depressing as fuck to think “porn star” is the legacy she’s leaving behind.

Unless they were a child abuser, child killer, hurt innocent people, rapist, or pedophile, (or just harmed children period), i make sure to never disrespect the dead. R.I.P. to this girl smh.

  • John Doe

Jaxton Wheeler TOLD HER to kill herself! He then threatened other women in text messages. And he never apologized outright for it. His behavior deserves to be called out and reported on by this site. It goes well beyond violating “polite discourse.” It’s the same kind of behavior that drives young gay people to suicide. He’s not solely responsible for Ames’s death, but actions have impact and he was a leader in the dog piling on her. She said something dumb and arguably bigoted, but it was still her body. As a community we CANNOT give the misogynist bullshit he was spewing a pass just because he looks good naked.
