Carlos Santana Says A “Woman Is A Woman And Man Is A Man,” Tells Trans People To Stay “In The Closet”

I was never a fan of the ugly geezer, as he always seemed overrated and way too full of himself. He had that truly horrendous song with Matchbox 20 or whatever that was a hit in the late 1990s, but other than that, his star faded decades ago. So, what better way to gain new attention than by going into a weird transphobic rant in front of thousands of people?

In the video below taken last month in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Carlos Santana tells his audience that, “When God made you and me, before we came out of the womb, you know who you are and what you are. Later on, when you grow out of it, you see things, and you start believing that you could be something that sounds good, but you know it ain’t right. Because a woman is a woman and a man is a man — that’s it. Whatever you wanna do in the closet, that’s your business. I’m OK with that. I am like this with my brother Dave Chappelle.”

What in the world this has to do with a rock and roll music concert is beyond all comprehension, but I suppose it could speak to Santana’s mental health problems. Beyond the transphobia and spreading hate about an already marginalized group, this is just fucking bizarre. Given his old age and being sick with COVID multiple times, Santana is likely suffering from dementia, so perhaps people will cut him some slack.

He issued an apology (via Billboard) yesterday, writing, “I am sorry for my insensitive comments. They don’t reflect that I want to honor and respect all person’s ideals and beliefs. I realize that what I said hurt people and that was not my intent. I sincerely apologize to the transgender community and everyone I offended.” Someone from his management company obviously wrote that.
