Overrated Bore Joaquin Phoenix Drops Out Of Gay Romance Film 5 Days Before Filming Was Set To Begin, Costing Studio Millions
Well, good. One less Joaquin Phoenix movie is always great news. As a reminder, Joker, for which Phoenix won his Oscar, is still one of the worst movies of the 21st century, second only to Everything Everywhere All At Once. The whole crew is out of work and the studio is set to lose millions of dollars, as apparently Phoenix’s role “cannot be recast.” Huh? Trust me, if anyone is replaceable, it’s Phoenix. Via Variety:
Joaquin Phoenix has dropped out of Todd Haynes‘ untitled gay romance film, just five days before filming was set to begin in Mexico, Variety has confirmed. […] Speculation among the crew is that Phoenix’s exit had to do with the graphic nature of the film’s sex scenes. But that theory is confusing to some sources, who reiterate that it was Phoenix who brought the project — and its NC-17 concept — to Haynes in the first place.
Sounds like he’s probably a conflicted homophobe. Makes sense. He’s always seemed like a nutcase.
