The End Of America: “Joe Biden Is The Singular Reason Kamala Harris Lost”
There’s a long article out from Politico on why Kamala Harris lost, with this quote:
“We ran the best campaign we could, considering Joe Biden was president,” grumbled one Harris aide granted anonymity to speak freely. “Joe Biden is the singular reason Kamala Harris and Democrats lost tonight.”
Another Harris aide said it was clear Biden should have made a graceful exit much sooner, allowing Democrats to hold a primary they believed Harris would have won.

There is way too much “coulda woulda” going on right now for my brain to process, but what feels clear to me is that there are close to a dozen different reasons that equally contributed to her loss, and looking at all of them combined, there was no way she could’ve won, in retrospect. Some of those reasons:
Misogyny is baked into America, and there will never be another female Democratic presidential nominee again in our lifetimes.
Ignorance and lack of morals are also baked in, and Americans either don’t care or have literally erased it from their memories that a convicted rapist and felon attempted to overthrow the government and had people killed on January 6th.
The economy and people’s need to survive financially inspired them to seek change, and sticking with the same administration didn’t make sense to them, which is the one reason I can sort of understand. The hilarious irony is that Trump did nothing to help them when he won in 2016, and things will only continue to get worse for them now.
Finally, yes, there’s Biden. Democrats didn’t select their nominee because there was no primary. This is indeed Biden’s fault. Had he dropped out over a year ago as I hoped and given voters a chance to pick their own nominee, they would’ve been more compelled to vote for that person, their chosen nominee, this week. And no, I don’t believe Harris would’ve won that primary, had there been one. Instead, she was put into a shitty position by being thrust into the role as candidate with barely three months to campaign, so this wasn’t her fault. It’s kind of crazy: The person who is the least to blame for Harris’ loss is actually Harris.
Everyone has known that America has been doomed for several years now, and no president or party can fix this. Corporate greed will continue to drive up homelessness and increase crime rates, force people into deteriorating physical/mental conditions and tragic premature deaths with no health care (not to mention no vaccines or fluoride in water, thanks to the brain worm-infected lunatic who’s being put in charge of making America “healthy”—enjoy your kids dying from polio while their teeth fall out!), and leave people with no education, retirement, or future. While we might’ve had a softer and more compassionate descent into societal collapse with Harris in charge, the billionaires and corporations that own and operate this country will have had their way no matter who won last night. Just as he is around the world, Trump the bankrupt and dementia-plagued fascist is a laughing stock to our corporate owners, and the only thing that will slow them down are all the natural disasters and environmental catastrophes coming our way over the next decade. That or a nuke from Iran and/or Putin taking over Europe.
Nearly 156 million people voted in the 2020 election during a raging pandemic, and while there are still a few million outstanding votes to be counted this year (primarily from California), it looks like only 150 million people voted in 2024. Ratings always go down during the final season of a TV show that jumped the shark and is way past its prime, so what happened last night makes sense. It’s the series finale of America, and no one really cares. Even if they did, there’s nothing anyone can do to save it now.
