Victor Willis, the frontman of Village People, one of Donald Trump’s favorite bands, has died aged 74. Willis died after a “short, aggressive illness,” according to Village People’s official Facebook page.
“We are profoundly sad to announce the death of Victor Willis, lead singer of Village People,” wrote the band. “Victor passed on Monday June 30, 2026 of a short but aggressive illness. Privacy is requested.”
Born in Texas in 1951, Willis was a founding member and lead singer of Village People.
As you’ll recall, Willis had a meltdown back in 2024 while trying to claim that Y.M.C.A. wasn’t a gay anthem. And while it’s certainly not a gay anthem now, it definitely was back in the 80’s and 90’s. Here he was back in 2024:
“There’s been a lot of talk, especially of late, that Y.M.C.A. is somehow a gay anthem,” Willis, who wrote the lyrics for the 1978 hit, said on Facebook on Monday. “As I’ve said numerous times in the past, that is a false assumption based on the fact that my writing partner was gay, and some (not all) of Village People were gay, and that the first Village People album was totally about gay life.
“This assumption is also based on the fact that the YMCA was apparently being used as some sort of gay hangout and since one of the writers was gay and some of the Village People are gay, the song must be a message to gay people. To that I say once again, get your minds out of the gutter. It is not.”
Get your minds out of the gutter, said the man who performed for the convicted rapist and demented pedophile at multiple inauguration events last year. RIP.
