Lena Dunham's Girls Returning To HBO For 5 Episodes
I watched the first three seasons, but then lost interest for some reason and stopped watching. Maybe the characters became too insufferable. I remember checking back in to watch the finale episode in 2017, but got bored after 10 minutes and turned it off. For those who care (outside of Gen X/Millennial gays and people who work in media, does anyone care?), there will be five more episodes of Girls coming to HBO sometime in 2028, with all of the original cast returning, minus Adam Driver, who’s a movie star now (and who threw a chair at Lena Dunham during rehearsal once, as Dunham claimed in her memoir). Five episodes isn’t even half of what a television season should be, but times are tough and HBO (like every network) can’t come up with anything new, so one month of familiar programming is better than nothing. Video announcement below and a quote from Dunham today:
We always said we would only return to Girls if there was a specific story we were burning to tell. I’ve missed these characters, but for a long time I couldn’t quite picture them in the present day. Then, right around my 40th birthday, they started talking to me in the shower. And, as you may remember, once this fivesome starts talking, it’s pretty hard to get them to stop. … It’s rare that you get the chance to return to something that changed your life with the gift of hindsight and a whole new level of gratitude and understanding. I love these girls (and boy), our friends at HBO and all the people who have continued to discover the show and remind us afresh why we do this, which is the joy of being together … and the chance to wear yellow mesh…”
