Alaska Airlines Pilot Who Took Magic Mushrooms And Tried To Murder 83 People Says He Has Mental Health Issues
Remember this guy who tried to bring down an Alaska Airlines flight last year? Ahead of his trial later this year, he’s doing interviews (the one below is from ABC) and is part of a New York Times documentary airing on FX (if only all accused mass murderers could have such a slick media presence!), and he says he attempted to crash the plane because he has mental health issues. OK, fine. So do most Americans. Difference is, most Americans who have mental health issues don’t try to commit mass fucking murder. We don’t know if this pilot will try to commit mass murder again (what if he takes another dose of magic mushrooms?), so hopefully he’ll serve several years in a mental hospital after he’s convicted.
I’m tired of people blaming their horrific criminal behavior—in this case: attempted mass murder!—on “mental health” when the overwhelming majority of people struggling with their own mental health problems would never try to commit mass murder. Watching that interview (thanks for normalizing and helping to justify his behavior, ABC!), it’s as if he’s the victim. After all, he had “sleep deficit”! I can see his defense team is already prepping their trial strategy based on cases from 12 years ago. Because if you don’t get enough sleep, you’re allowed to kill 83 people! Such self-serving and cowardly nonsense. Also, don’t do weird fucking drugs and get on a plane. Lock him up.
