Anora Takes Best Picture, Director, Actress At Spirit Awards
Will there be a repeat of this at the Oscars next weekend? History and the odds say yes, since Anora already took home all the precursor guild awards (PGA, WGA, DGA), in addition to these wins at the Spirit Awards tonight. Then again, I feel like there could be some surprises at the Oscars, and even Conclave could upset with a Best Picture win. Here’s Anora’s Best Feature win:
The SAG Awards are in a few hours, where the movie might pick up more trophies. I’ve been avoiding watching it (I didn’t like one of the previous movies from director Sean Baker, Florida Project), but I’m about to push play on Anora in a few minutes and give it a shot. Here are the director and actress wins (I’m still 100% rooting for Demi Moore at the Oscars) for Sean Baker and Mikey Madison:
In non-Anora news, here was a great win for Maisy Stella, who starred in maybe the best movie I saw last year, My Old Ass:
Finally, here’s Jesse Eisenberg winning the screenplay award for A Real Pain, which was pretty good. His praise for Emma Stone and her reaction is really sweet:
