Beleaguered Lizzo Announces Retirement From Music Business: “I Didn’t Sign Up For This Shit. I Quit.”
After being accused of racism, fat-shaming, bullying, discrimination, and sexually harassing employees in multiple civil lawsuits, plus-sized singer Lizzo has finally had enough. The troubled Grammy-winning artist posted the below announcement on her Instagram yesterday, just hours after performing at a campaign rally for Joe Biden, telling fans in part, “I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet. […] I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout and views…being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look. […] I didn’t sign up for this shit. I quit.”
While insults and lies are never fun and rarely fair, Lizzo actually did “sign up for this shit” the moment she chose to become a public figure. Of course, she also has the right to withdraw and step away from it all, which seems like her best course of action right now. Hopefully she’s able to find some peace, even while dealing with all the lawsuits. Via IG:
