When I first saw the headlines that The Onion bought Infowars, I though they were actual Onion headlines. But no, it’s true, and it’s glorious. Via AP:

The satirical news publication The Onion won the bidding for Alex Jones’ Infowars at a bankruptcy auction, backed by families of Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims whom Jones owes more than $1 billion in defamation judgments for calling the massacre a hoax.

The Onion plans to relaunch Infowars early next year as some sort of parody website, which is ironic given that psychopath Jones has been spreading misinformation and lies (without any of the intelligence or humor of The Onion) for decades. The Onion itself posted a funny explanation from their fake CEO today:

Founded in 1999 on the heels of the Satanic “panic” and growing steadily ever since, InfoWars has distinguished itself as an invaluable tool for brainwashing and controlling the masses. With a shrewd mix of delusional paranoia and dubious anti-aging nutrition hacks, they strive to make life both scarier and longer for everyone, a commendable goal. They are a true unicorn, capable of simultaneously inspiring public support for billionaires and stoking outrage at an inept federal state that can assassinate JFK but can’t even put a man on the Moon.

Through it all, InfoWars has shown an unswerving commitment to manufacturing anger and radicalizing the most vulnerable members of society—values that resonate deeply with all of us at Global Tetrahedron.

More news on the purchase and some of Jones’ deranged response below via CNN. I keep hoping that he’ll just kill himself and get it over with, but it’s looking like fellow MAGA lunatics will keep him afloat for a few more years.
