Only a few details about the Trump shooter have been revealed so far (apparently they can’t get into his cell phone?), but I don’t think there’s going to be any consistent political ideology or motive uncovered. Yes, he was a registered Republican, but he also donated $15 to Act Blue (a PAC that supports Democrats). Meanwhile, his father is a Libertarian, while his mother is a Democrat. The report above via CBS Pittsburgh uses the word “loner” a few times (the media just loves that word), and I have a feeling that’s all we’re gonna get. Some people are just completely insane and don’t leave behind a manifesto. That mass shooter in Las Vegas who killed 61 people in 2017 had no known motive, and this could be a similar situation.
Meanwhile, it’s important to remember some background. In 2021, in his attempt to overthrow the government and retain power despite losing the election, Trump sicced a riotous mob of thousands of people onto the Capitol so they could terrorize and murder hundreds of people. So, it’s interesting that Trump now knows, if only for a seconds, a little bit of what that kind of terror felt like for the people in D.C. on January 6th. Now Trump knows what it feels like to have someone trying to murder you. And for all we know, it was Trump’s constant encouragement of violence and retribution that inspired Thomas Crooks. A man reaps what he sows, indeed.
