First Teaser Trailer For Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis, Which He Spent $120 Million Of His Own Money To Make

Adam Driver isn’t a box office draw who gets people into theaters (all his recent films bombed, including Ferrari, 65, House Of Gucci, and The Last Duel), but he’s the main star of Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis. The movie is making headlines because Coppola spent $120 million of his own money to make it, and then he couldn’t find a studio to buy and distribute it. It actually still doesn’t have an American distributor, but that might change after it premieres at Cannes later this month. The trailer:

I liked Adam Driver in Girls and BlacKkKlansman, and he was one of the few highlights in the mostly mediocre Star Wars reboots, but I can’t imagine sitting through two and a half hours of him in this dystopian crap. In addition to Driver, Megalopolis also stars Jon Voight, so Coppola’s judgment is obviously shit. Anyone spending $120 million to make a movie with a MAGA psychopath has no idea what they’re doing, and the movie will undoubtedly flop. It’s always funny to see self-absorbed Hollywood lunatics flushing money down the toilet.

The movie’s plot, via Wiki:

The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina, a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero, who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests and partisan warfare. Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero, the mayor’s daughter, whose love for Cesar has divided her loyalties, forcing her to discover what she truly believes humanity deserves.

Yawn.
