In response to a fan who questioned why Helix Studios doesn’t hire black models, big-dicked Helix Studios exclusive Troy Ryan responded:

While Troy Ryan isn’t wrong, it doesn’t mean that what he’s stating isn’t a huge problem. Having interviewed stars, directors, and producers about this over the last decade, it’s clear that gay porn’s race problem is attributable to multiple factors—not just “supply and demand.” Yes, many gay porn viewers are racist and only prefer watching a certain “type,” but, as it’s been well documented on this site, many gay porn stars are very racist, too (I don’t believe Troy Ryan is one of them), and they flat out refuse to work with models of color. And, as performer XL explained in an interview earlier this year, the problem—like most racial problems in this country—is systemic:

Majority of urban gay performers I know who apply to mainstream sites are denied while models more “fitting to their standard” are hired. Not only does that keep urban performers working only with urban studios, but it really makes advancement in this industry an unattainable goal.

Also, how can a gay porn studio truly know anything about supply and demand when they aren’t even “testing the waters” by featuring black models on their sites? For the record, Helix Studios hasn’t featured a scene with a black model since June of 2013, and that was Austin Merrick. Before that, I was unable to find any black models in any scenes on Helix’s site. Ever.
