How Many Of The 2021 Best Picture Oscar Nominees Have You Seen?
The 93rd annual Oscar nominations were announced this morning, but has anyone seen any of the movies nominated for Best Picture? Has anyone been to a movie theater in the last 12 months? After a year of lockdowns, I think most of us are more familiar with the porn movies that were nominated for Best Movie at Str8Up’s Best Of 2020 Awards, but I’m curious if I’m alone in my Oscar obliviousness. Please vote in the poll below regarding the films nominated for Best Picture, which are Minari, Mank, Judas And The Black Messiah, Promising Young Woman, Nomadland, Sound Of Metal, The Trial Of The Chicago 7, and The Father.
Because I have Amazon Prime, I was able to see one of the eight films nominated, but of the other seven, I either have no interest in them or they require me to sign up for another streaming service that I’ll maybe use once and then never think about again.
Sound Of Metal (the one I’ve seen) was great and Riz Ahmed should absolutely win Best Actor. The movie has one of the most satisfying endings in recent memory. I would like to see Nomadland and Promising Young Woman somehow, at some point, but I don’t want to pay $20 to rent something and I don’t want to join Hulu.
Even though I’ve liked some of David Fincher’s movies (Zodiac, The Social Network, Panic Room), I can’t see myself ever watching Mank without falling asleep.
I used to make it a point to see all the Best Picture nominees (even the ones that looked boring), but after living through a deadly pandemic, I think I’m too tired to waste time on things that don’t interest me, even though I’m sitting inside my house every day and actually have all the time in the world to waste? Not sure how that makes sense.
Of the eight nominees for Best Picture—Minari, Mank, Judas And The Black Messiah, Promising Young Woman, Nomadland, Sound Of Metal, The Trial Of The Chicago 7, The Father—how many have you seen?
