The annual White House Correspondents Dinner, along with the festivities held in the days before and after it, have led to the inevitable spread of Covid. In the days since WHCD weekend, reporters and staffers from CNN, ABC News, NBC News, CBS News, Politico, and other participating news organizations have tested positive for the virus. Inevitable? Had they not arranged for over 2,500 maskless people to sit inside an enclosed room for hours right in the middle of a deadly pandemic, most (if not all) of these people would not be “inevitably” testing positive right now. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to attend maskless indoor superspreader events that continue to threaten the lives of the immunocompromised and the elderly while increasing the odds of new variants developing. And believe it or not, you don’t have to put yourself at risk of becoming infected and developing long COVID, which is a debilitating and devastatingly underreported nightmare afflicting millions around the world. So, no, it’s not fucking inevitable. Spreading COVID is a conscious choice that people are making when they attend events like this, and with no public health guidance from our so-called leaders in government (take your masks off! get a third shot! get a fourth shot! oops, the shots don’t prevent infection and transmission! lol!), this will never end.
