Luigi Mangione Indicted For First-Degree Murder
The initial charge in his arrest warrant was second-degree murder, but now Luigi Mangione has been formally charged by a Manhattan grand jury on 11 counts, including first-degree murder:
One count of murder in the first degree, in furtherance of terrorism; two counts of murder in the second degree, one of which is charged as killing as an act of terrorism; two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree; four counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree; one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree; and one count of criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree.
I don’t see how they’re going to get convictions on such a variety of murder charges, and they’re also going to have to convince a jury that this was terrorism? Good luck. Maybe they threw in all the murder counts knowing that they’d only be successful with one. More on the first-degree aspect via CNN:
Under New York law, murder in the first-degree only applies to a narrow list of aggravating circumstances, including when the victim is a judge, a police officer or a first responder, or when the killing involves a murder-for-hire or an intent to commit terrorism.
While the government does nothing to prevent the murders of thousands of regular Americans every year (including a few in a classroom just yesterday), billionaires and the insurance industry must be protected at all costs, obviously. Don’t hold your breath waiting for a terrorism charge the next time a schoolteacher is shot dead. More via News Nation:
