[Updated] Madonna Debuts At #1 On Billboard 200 With Confessions II

The chart above via HitsDailyDouble won’t be exactly the same as what the Billboard 200 reveals on Sunday, but it’s still a virtual guarantee that Madonna will be #1 on the “official” music industry chart from Billboard. (HitsDailyDouble and Billboard almost always show the same numbers in terms of the overall rankings, but exact sales can differ.) Note that she sold over 107,000 physical units of Confessions II, dwarfing and utterly humiliating whoever the person is below her, who only sold 18,000. This will be Madonna’s 10th #1 on the Billboard 200, extending her streak as the most successful female on the charts since the 1980’s. She obviously should’ve had 11 #1s, but Ray Of Light—which debuted at #2 in 1998 and sold a staggering 371,000 units—was absurdly blocked by the Celine Dion shipwreck song in 1998. A fun look back at her Billboard 200 history:

UPDATE:

The Billboard 200 is out now, and first week sales of Confessions II are higher than expected, with 134,000 units sold. Billboard also notes that Madonna is now the only act in music history to have a #1 album in the 2020’s as well as three previous decades. Via Billboard:

Madonna earns her 10th No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart as her new studio album, CONFESSIONS II, debuts atop the list dated July 18. With the arrival, the Queen of Pop gets her first No. 1 album of the 2020s and becomes the first act with a No. 1 album in the 2020s to have also topped the chart in three other decades.

CONFESSIONS II marks Madonna’s 10th No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and first of the 2020s. She landed three No. 1s in the 1980s, four in the 2000s and two in the ‘10s. (She logged seven top 10s in the ‘90s, including five that peaked at No. 2.)

CONFESSIONS II also marks Madonna’s 24th top 10-charted album. The only acts with more top 10s are The Rolling Stones (38), Barbra Streisand (34), The Beatles, Frank Sinatra (both with 32) and Elvis Presley (27).
