Man Awarded Just $25k After Having Penis Chopped Off During Botched Circumcision
I’d say one’s penis is worth way more than $25,000. In fact, it’s probably invaluable. But, a little over $24k is all one man received after doctors accidentally chopped his penis off during a botched circumcision. The horrific surgery was done over a decade ago, but the courts are just now finalizing the compensation amount, which was originally over $600,000, but was reduced after the government appealed. A 22-year-old man who had his penis lopped off in a botched circumcision at age ten has had a compensation award of £500,000 reduced to just £20,000 after the Malay government successfully appealed against his claim.
The unnamed victim reportedly lost roughly 90 per cent of his penis during the op that took place at the local hospital in his hometown of Kuala Lipis, Malaysia, on December 13, 2010.
The medics who reportedly severed his privates were not qualified in microsurgeries, and the decision was made to transfer the boy to Selayang Hospital where better qualified surgeons could attempt to rectify the horror botch job.
But the delay meant he was only operated on ten hours later, at which point all hope for reattaching his penis was lost.
Afterwards, he remained hospitalised for over a month amid an agonising and desperate recovery process after which he filed a lawsuit against the government and hospital directors with the help of his mother.
On April 7, 2022, Justice Datuk Akhtar Tahir ruled in his favour and awarded him MYR 3.1 million (£532,409) in damages.
As noted above, the government appealed the April, 2022 ruling, and the amount was reduced to about $25,000.
