Mass Shooting At Christian Elementary School In Tennessee Leaves 6 Dead

The suspect accused of storming a private Christian school in Nashville on Monday morning, killing three kids and three adults, has been identified as a “quiet” 28-year-old former art student who once attended the church-based school.

The Nashville Metro Police Department identified the suspect as Audrey Hale, who was shot dead by cops just 14 minutes after The Covenant School first called police to report an active shooter.

While police described Hale as a 28-year-old white woman, social media profiles under Hale’s name list he/him pronouns. A LinkedIn profile says Hale started a freelance illustration and graphic design business last year after attending, and working for, Nossi College of Art in Madison, Tennessee. At Nossi, Hale won an award for “most improved” in 2015, according to the school’s site.

During a press conference moments ago, the police chief stated that this was a “targeted attack” at the Tennessee Christian school, and that the shooter identified as transgender. Via Fox17Nashville:

Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake says police have found detailed maps of the school with entry points. Police also discovered a manifesto and writings from Hale. “There’s right now a theory but it is not confirmed,” Chief Drake said of the findings. Chief Drake said he cannot confirm motive but did say it was a targeted attack.

While the overwhelming majority of mass shooters (we’re talking, like, 99% of them) are cisgender white males, the right-wing psychos are going to have a field day with this one, unfortunately. And, of course, it’ll be just another distraction. Nothing will ever be done to prevent people from obtaining military grade weapons like the AR-15 used in today’s shooting.
