Catching Up With Max Carter: Being Part Of A Powercouple, A Production Assistant, And A Gay Porn Superstar
Helix exclusive Max Carter has been a leading twink gay porn star since 2011, but in the last few years he’s grown into much more. He’s one half of a gay porn power couple, he works behind the scenes, and he’s, of course, still a fan-favorite performer. Below, Max Carter opens up for a quick chat in the twink-turned-twunk’s first-ever Str8UpGayPorn Q&A.
Str8UpGayPorn: Hi Max! When did you start working as an adult model, how old are you now, and at what age do you think you’ll stop performing?
I started in porn January of 2011, and I’m 24 now. I’m not sure what age is too old to stop filming.
You and Kyle Ross are considered one of gay porn’s biggest, longest lasting powercouples. When did you start dating?
Kyle and I started dating in January of 2012.
When did you start working behind the scenes at Helix, and for those who don’t know, explain what it is you do behind the camera?
I’ve been working behind the scenes for about two years now. When I first started working in the office, I was just at the front desk. Meaning, I answered the phone, did customer service, and handled all the DVD sales. Now, I work alongside [director and producer] Alex and Casey. I help schedule the models, do wardrobe, set up and take down sets, do scene scenarios, and anything else involving production.
Are you a full time employee, with regular salary and benefits?
I am a full time employee, and I do receive salary and medical benefits.
Are you paid separately when you work as a performer in Helix scenes, as opposed to when you work in production?
I’m paid my regular salary, and whenever I do a scene I’m paid a separate check.
You also have your own site with Kyle, “Kyle And Max” Do you rely on revenue from the site or is it just “extra” fun money?
The revenue from the site is just extra income.
Would you be able to support yourself financially if you only worked as a gay porn star?
I mean, maybe. If I were doing regular cam shows, and if Kyle and I sold more videos on KyleAndMax.
It varies at every studio, but what do you think is the average scene rate for an average gay porn star working today?
I would say about $800.
So, depending on living expenses, most porn stars need to film at least three or four scenes per month. Or, do they have day jobs outside of porn?
Most Helix models don’t have day jobs. They just cam for extra cash. Or, they go-go dance or become a club host.
What are some benefits of becoming a gay porn star today?
You get to travel, you have the hottest and safest sex with the sexiest boys, and you get to meet a lot of people.
Negative aspects?
Everyone will find out what you do, even if you don’t want them to.
So in terms of career longevity, what advice would you give to someone thinking of becoming a gay porn star today?
