Valentina Gomez will need to beat out a few other Republicans in the primary this August before she’s the actual nominee for Secretary of State in Missouri. She recently told Ballotpedia that one of her main goals as SOS will be to “remove gender ideologies from Libraries, School Curriculums and programs for the youth of Missouri, while backing our Police, Fire and EMS Departments.” What the fuck gender ideology has to do with the fire department is a mystery to me, but brain dead MAGAts aren’t exactly known for coherent thoughts. Maybe she’s just obsessed with fire.
The books she’s burning are Naked: Not Your Average Sex Encyclopedia by Myriam Daguzan Bernier and Queer, 2nd Edition: The Ultimate LGBTQ Guide for Teens by Kathy Belge. The violent imagery and bigotry is part of the GOP strategy to motivate their “base” (i.e., American Christofascist lunatics) to get out and vote this year, and it’s consistent with Republicans’ longstanding desire to have people with opposing political and cultural beliefs murdered. It used to be more subtle (e.g., Sarah Palin’s “crosshairs” map that led to the Tuscon massacre that maimed Gabrielle Giffords), but now it’s someone basically inferring that gay people should be burned alive.
