Neve Campbell Won’t Be Back For Scream 6
Via Deadline:
We’ve officially heard that Neve Campbell won’t be reprising her role as Sidney Prescott in Paramount/Spyglass Media’s Scream 6.
Word began to leak on the convention circuit with Campbell, and she says today, “Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film.”
“As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream,” the actress says about her turn in the $744M-plus grossing global franchise, “I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”
“It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years,” adds Campbell.
This is good news, first and foremost because it’s great to see Campbell recognizing her worth and being vocal about her value to the franchise (she literally is the face of the franchise and revitalized horror’s Final Girl trope back in 1996). But also, I’m glad she won’t be appearing in Scream 6 because her presence would’ve given credibility to another unnecessary installment of the franchise, which officially ended after Scream 4 when Wes Craven died. To have had four films in a row that were mostly excellent is almost unheard of in Hollywood, and it’s too bad the franchise has been tarnished by a weak reboot. Scream 5 was mediocre at best, and was an inauthentic cash-grab by the studio. I watched it a few months ago, but I can’t tell you a single character’s name (or actor’s name) from the new and embarrassingly unremarkable cast (and I definitely can’t recall what the killers’ motives were), so they can all die in Scream 6 as far as I’m concerned.
FYI, my ranking of Screams:
Scream > Scream 2 >> Scream 4 >>> Scream 3 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Scream 5
