Octavia Spencer Returning For Ma Sequel
Ma was just OK for me (I’d give it a 6.5 out of 10), and it’s probably nowhere as good as people seem to think it was based on gifs and reaction memes. Let’s hope the sequel is way more campy, violent, crazy, and unhinged. They could’ve done a lot more in the first one. Via Deadline:
Blumhouse announced at their Business of Fear symposium yesterday that Oscar winner Octavia Spencer is returning for a sequel to the 2019 revenge horror movie, Ma. The first movie, directed by The Help‘s Tate Taylor, grossed more than $60 million at the worldwide box office off a reported $5M production cost. In the Scotty Landes written Ma, a lonely woman befriends a group of teenagers and decides to let them party at her house. Just when the kids think their luck couldn’t get any better, things start happening that make them question the intention of their host.
As you’ll recall (or maybe not, in which case: spoiler alert), Ma was brutally stabbed and left burning alive in her house at the end of the first movie, but they never showed her actually dying. All the kids eventually figured out who she was, so I presume the sequel will have Ma relocated to a new town to fuck with new kids.
