Oscar-Nominated Cord Jefferson On Why He Brought American Fiction To The Big Screen

This interview with the brilliant Cord Jefferson is a month old, but I’m just catching up on it now after his two Oscar nominations yesterday for American Fiction (he’s a producer and the writer of the film, which is up for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay), and it’s great to hear about how the film came to be. Jefferson worked at Gawker before moving into film and television, and he won an Emmy for writing an episode of HBO’s underrated, sort of confusing, and yet excellent Watchmen in 2019. I’ve been wanting to see American Fiction for months, and it should be out on one of the streaming platforms within the next month.
