RIP: MindGeek Tube Site XTube Shutting Down
MindGeek-owned tube site XTube will be closing shop for good on September 5th, the site quietly revealed today on their FAQ page. Perhaps the lesser known of MindGeek’s tube sites (compared to Pornhub), XTube launched in 2006 (one year before Pornhub) and was known for hosting thousands of user-uploaded amateur porn videos (not to mention thousands of pirated videos stolen from porn studios). Some of XTube’s videos came under intense scrutiny last year in that now infamous New York Times article condemning MindGeek and its tube sites for hosting child abuse, revenge porn, and rape videos, and credit card companies subsequently announced that they’d no longer process payments on the sites. It’s now clear that keeping XTube around just isn’t worth it anymore for MindGeek.
