Singer-Songwriter Eric Carmen Dead At 74
You might know him from “Hungry Eyes” (as seen above, the cassette single of which was played and rewound and played again thousands of times on my boom box throughout the summer of 1987, when Dirty Dancing was released), but Eric Carmen is also the songwriter behind classics like “All By Myself,” which was of course famously covered by Celine Dion. Carmen died over the weekend at 74, via Hollywood Reporter:
Carmen’s wife Amy posted news of the singer’s death on his official website. “It is with tremendous sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Eric Carmen,” Amy Carmen wrote. “Our sweet, loving and talented Eric passed away in his sleep, over the weekend. It brought him great joy to know, that for decades, his music touched so many and will be his lasting legacy. Please respect the family’s privacy as we mourn our enormous loss.”
No cause of death was given.
