TitanMen Has Not Released New Content In Six Weeks—Has The Iconic Gay Porn Studio Shut Down?
Is TitanMen the latest gay porn studio to go belly up (and not in a good way)? That’s what many are assuming, as the iconic producer of such hits as Cauke For Free, Folsom Flesh, and Redneck Hollow hasn’t released any new content for six weeks. The last time Titan released a new scene for its members was on March 28th, and it was a duo starring Dirk Caber and Dakota Rivers.
Most gay porn studios typically release new scenes once or twice a week (some a little less, some a little more), and that had been Titan’s schedule for several years—until March 28th. For the last six weeks, the studio has instead been putting up “remastered” scenes from movies previously released over a decade ago, including Barnstorm (2007), Boiler (2006), and Fallen Angel 3 (2001). Those are good movies that many might not have seen, but members undoubtedly join(ed) the studio’s site to see new productions, and if they’re no longer producing new movies, Titan should disclose that.
Reps for Titan have not responded to multiple requests for comment and clarification over the last two weeks, so at this point, it’s safe to assume that they’ve shut down. After direct messages and emails went unanswered, Str8UpGayPorn tweeted Titan publicly today to ask about the status of the studio, but they didn’t respond to that, either. (Their Twitter account has turned into a political and pop culture feed, with the majority of their tweets having nothing to do with their content.)
TitanMen (also referred to as Titan Media) was launched in 1995 by director Bruce Cam and Robert Kirsch (who died in 2001). The San Francisco-based company produced award-winning movies for over 20 years, several of which were made by high-profile gay adult film directors Ray Dragon and Joe Gage.
Free porn on tube sites and social media as well as performers’ self-produced home movies continue to chip away at traditional studios that don’t know how to market to new consumers, aren’t able to adapt to changes in viewing habits, and don’t introduce exclusive stars who can’t be seen elsewhere, and TitanMen appears to be the latest casualty. They join a growing list of gay porn studios that have had to either shut down completely or produce content infrequently due to a decline in sales over the last decade, including Jake Cruise, Channel One Releasing, Jet Set Men, Colby Jansen’s “ColbysCrew” (which was only online for a few months), Randy Blue, and several smaller studios. Meanwhile, some independently-owned studios like Sean Cody, Falcon, and Active Duty couldn’t survive on their own, and were purchased by adult entertainment conglomerates Mindgeek, AEBN, and Gamma, respectively.
