Val Kilmer Dead At 65
Val Kilmer, one of Hollywood’s biggest stars from the 1980’s and 1990’s, has sadly died at the age of 65. Via Deadline:
The Juilliard graduate with leading man looks known for taking on roles that went far beyond his appearance, has died. His daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, confirmed to the New York Times that the actor had passed away after battling pneumonia. He was 65.
Kilmer had been diagnosed with throat cancer back in 2015, and it had been reported that he continued to have other health problems over the last several years. I forgot how many blockbusters I watched him in until I went through his filmography just now: Willow, Top Gun, The Doors, True Romance, Batman Forever, Heat, and so many more. It was kind of a bomb, but he was good in The Saint with Elisabeth Shue. I even saw his first movie, Top Secret, and remember thinking he was so cute and funny. And his moving appearance (also his final role) in 2022’s Top Gun 2, in which you can see the obvious effects of his real-life throat cancer:
Kilmer’s death was the lead story on all the local news broadcasts in L.A. tonight, two of which are below.
