Surprise: OnlyFans Reverses Decision And Will NOT Be Banning Porn After All
Last week, OnlyFans announced they’d be banning all porn beginning on October 1st. Today? They’ve changed their mind, and porn can actually remain on the platform after all. A statement from the fan content platform this morning:
Thank you to everyone for making your voices heard. We have secured assurances necessary to support our diverse creator community and have suspended the planned October 1 policy change. OnlyFans stands for inclusion and we will continue to provide a home for all creators.
Those “secured assurances necessary to support our diverse creator community” likely refer to banks and payment processors who, up until today, many believed had threatened to pull out of OnlyFans after evangelical groups had gone to U.S. lawmakers with false claims that OnlyFans was engaging in sex trafficking and child exploitation. It’s not known what OnlyFans said or did to convince Mastercard and Visa to stay on board (perhaps they promised even greater moderation of uploads?), but whatever it was, it worked, and it’s a great day for sex workers who can continue to use the service.
It feels like maybe the massive amount of public support for sex workers on social media (and even in mainstream media over the last week) played a role in the OnlyFans reversal, and this is encouraging. But, the fight against evangelical groups like Exodus Cry and NCOSE—who’ve made it their sick mission to destroy the lives of legal sex workers—is far from over, and it’s only a matter of time before these freaks attack their next target.
OnlyFans changed their “acceptable use policy” yet again, and the new version makes no mention of banning sexually explicit content. Like before, certain types of content are still not allowed (revenge porn, private information, sex in public places, hate speech, etc.):
And here’s the message that was sent to creators today reiterating that OnlyFans would not be banning porn after receiving “banking partners’ assurances that OnlyFans can support all genres of creators”:
