Cade Maddox Faces Backlash For Telling Followers To Speed Up COVID Vaccine Eligibility By Becoming Uber Eats Drivers
Gay porn star Cade Maddox is facing backlash online after the multi-award winning performer posted an Instagram video in which he encouraged followers to become Uber Eats drivers in order to speed up their eligibility for the COVID vaccine. That suggestion (as seen above) came after another video from Maddox in which he can be seen receiving the vaccine in California. Here’s the full video as posted to his Instagram stories, which includes a disclaimer added to the end in which Maddox clarifies that he “never said to lie” in order to get the vaccine:
Because Maddox is in his early 30s and, up until today, was not known for his work in any of the sectors currently eligible for the vaccine in California (health care, childcare, food and agriculture, or emergency services), it appears he’s telling people that he himself signed up to become an Uber Eats driver, and he’s worked for the company long enough to be able to provide proof of income so he could get the shot today. So, he’s technically not skipping the vaccine line since Uber Eats drivers fall under the “food and agriculture” sector.
I (and you, and anyone else in California with a car) could’ve easily signed up to become an Uber Eats driver last month, brought in a couple pay stubs, and maybe received a vaccine today, too. But, I’d rather have people who are actual full time regular workers in the eligible sectors get their shots first, since they’re the ones who’ll still be working in grocery stores and delivering food tomorrow, and the next day, and the next week, and the next month. (Sorry, if you live in WeHo, I wouldn’t expect to have Cade Maddox delivering your Chipotle anytime soon.)
As you can imagine, the internet is not pleased with Cade Maddox’s vaccine strategy, and he was called out by the now infamous GaysOverCOVID Instagram account, which cited Maddox’s “white privilege”:

And the anger has spread to Twitter, too:
California’s vaccine rollout has been painfully slow, and after over two months, we’re still in the first tier of eligibility (technically, we’re in “1B,” where only people over 65 and essential workers in the previously mentioned sectors are eligible). It’s a miserable situation. And yet, the whole entire past year has been miserable. I’m used to the painful slowness and the waiting around for days on end, and nothing surprises me anymore. Aren’t we all used to the endless misery by now?
I have a few friends who’ve finagled their way into getting the vaccine when they weren’t eligible, but I’m only able to be pissed at them for about five minutes. I’ll remember what they did and it’ll probably shape my opinion of them down the line, but for now, there has to be a better way to use what little energy I have left. Turning off Facebook and Twitter and Instagram might help.
Too bad Cade Maddox didn’t turn off his Instagram. He didn’t have to post what he posted, and yet, he had to post it. How could he not? Nothing is really real unless it provokes a like or a comment, even a bad one. And that being said, encouraging people to get the vaccine is a good thing. If only he would’ve ended his video after getting the shot and just left people wondering how he was eligible. Keep them guessing. Less is always more, even for porn stars.
