Porn Conglomerate Gamma Launches All-White Gay Porn Studio “Disruptive Films” With Female Director Bree Mills
Canadian porn conglomerate Gamma (the parent company of NextDoorStudios, ActiveDuty, and several other sites) has launched their latest studio today, and it’s called Disruptive Films. Scenes are predominantly directed by female director Bree Mills (known for her work in lesbian and straight porn), and the 10 scenes and/or movies released (or about to be released this month) thus far star only white male performers, as seen in all of the cover photos above. Not one single Black model, not one single Latin model, and not one single non-white model that Str8Up can identify. So much for that diversity Gamma had talked about last year.
Oh, but there is a scene called “Young Again” that features Chi Chi LaRue in a non-sexual role, so at least they made sure to cover whatever demographic he represents. Viewers will no doubt be riveted.
With the meteoric rise of fan platforms that are thriving more than ever (not to mention the strides that other traditional porn studios have at least tried to make) with models of all colors and ethnicities, it’s hard to believe anyone would be so out of touch to launch a new gay porn studio in 2021 with an all-white model roster. To be fair, the models starring in Disruptive Films scenes are mostly good (if not great) performers, and it’s obviously not their fault that casting for the studio has been so segregated. That being said, I feel like I’ve seen all these Disruptive Films scenes before when they were shot 10 years ago by Nica Noelle and the studio was called Icon Male.
Compare all these Icon Male box covers with Disruptive Films beneath it. What’s the difference?
And note that in the Disruptive Films trailers below, the themes, cinematography, music, and even casting (Nick Capra?! Ricky Larkin? it’s a who’s who of Nica Noelle exes!) feels exactly the same as Icon Male. Hell, at least Nica Noelle hired Black models.
I’m sure Disruptive Films will have one or two models of color appearing in a scene or two by November. But for now, they’ve chosen to enter the gay porn industry as an all-white studio. Deliberate choice or not, it has to be one of the most tone deaf and disastrous studio launches I’ve ever seen.
