American Airlines Flight AA1779, operated by an Airbus A319 (registration N737US), departed Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) at 8:45 p.m. EDT on Friday, September 11, 2026 nearly an hour and a half behind its scheduled 7:10 p.m. departure time.

The flight was cruising at an altitude of 38,000 feet when flight attendants alerted the cockpit crew to an escalating situation in the front right section of the cabin.
