Kane Fox Exclusive: The Year’s Brightest New Star On How He Creates Content, What It Means To Be A Sex Worker In 2020, And How He Learned To Love Himself

Posted June 25, 2020 by with 8 comments

Kane Fox made his debut on Helix Studios just two months ago, but for the last year, he’s built a following and an impressive catalog of self-produced content on his OnlyFans. In his first exclusive interview, Fox tells Str8UpGayPorn how and why he became a performer, the purpose behind his work, what he’s learned about himself over the last six tumultuous months, what he hopes to have achieved in 30 years, and much more.

Hi Kane! Thank you for taking the time to chat. For those who don’t know, how old are you and how tall are you?
I’m 23 years old, and I’ll be turning 24 in August. I’m 6′ tall. Well, technically I’m 5’11” and three-fourths, but shhhh—with shoes on nobody knows the difference.

I’ll never tell! What is your ethnic background?
I am Native American on my Mother’s side (Ojibwe) and Norwegian on my Father’s side. So, part Native American and part Viking, and I think that’s pretty cool!

I think you’ve been on OnlyFans performing for nearly a year now? What made you decide to start there, and did you know you’d be such a natural performer?
Yes, I’ve been doing OnlyFans for about 11 months now and it’s been quite a journey. I started because it’s something my followers were asking me to do for quite a while. This was back when I was still only posting booty pics on Instagram, and nothing more. I decided to give it a shot, and it went really well pretty much right out of the gate.

Were there challenges or things you had to learn, technically or creatively, as you started posting your photos and videos?
Originally, I didn’t show any genitals on my OnlyFans, as my boyfriend at the time didn’t allow it, so I had to be very creative with my content. It wasn’t until about four months in when I started to show full nudity. The hardest parts were, firstly, my own insecurities. I’m someone who is extremely hard on himself, and I’ve always been sensitive about my body, so recording videos of myself completely naked on a consistent basis and then watching them back to edit them was very hard for me, and still is at times. Secondly, I take my content very seriously and take lots of pride in it, so I never want someone to watch one of my videos and think “same old same old.” I’m always trying to diversify my content and keep it fresh, which can be very challenging when you post content every day. I’m still growing and getting better in both of these respects to this day.

Your committment to producing high quality—not to mention just downright hot—content is so evident, and I always can’t wait to see what you’re gonna post next. You have a weekly schedule of videos, where every day is a different theme. Which day’s video is your favorite to make?
In my personal life, I really love POV videos when I’m watching porn, so I really enjoy making POV videos for my fans on Wednesday. I think POV videos are incredibly hot, and I actually think they’re considerably fun to make.

There was one POV a few months ago [watch an excerpt above] where you’re pretending to talk to someone off camera, and you’re letting him watch you jerk off. You keep up the act perfectly for the whole video, and I think it’s my favorite video you’ve made so far.
Ah, that video! Thanks so much for the compliment! That is probably my most commented on video of all time; people really seem to love it. I was actually incredibly nervous to make that one, and when I watched it back I came very close to never posting it.

Thank God you did. Were you ever trained as an actor? Did you have a script or planned things to say, or did you just ad lib?
I’ve never had any kind of training as an actor or anything—a fact which I thought was very evident when I reviewed that video, but I’m glad I was wrong! I didn’t write out any script or anything, I just came up with the general concept and winged it. I kind of just started fantasizing in my own head and acted how I imagined the person would be acting in that scenario. I did and said what I would’ve found hot and arousing, and it turns out my fantasies weren’t far off from everyone else’s!

Did Helix find you via OnlyFans, or did you apply directly with them?
I actually came to be at Helix via Twitter. I don’t remember exactly how it occured, but Helix and I had a brief interaction on Twitter early this year, but I wasn’t certain about getting into professional porn at the time. After a couple months of deliberating and inquiries from various studios, I came to the conclusion that it couldn’t hurt to look into it. I tweeted mentioning Helix, jokingly saying the day they slide in my DMs is the day I can die happy, and well, they did! They told me to apply and they got back to me very quickly and were very welcoming and friendly.

And you went exclusive with them?
Yes, I chose to go forward with Helix because of my conversations with other models, namely Tyler Sweet. He had only great things to say about working with them, and I became exclusive on my first trip out. I really wanted to build something special with one studio, and I loved the Helix family, so it was a no-brainer for me.

When did you realize that you were bisexual, and what was your coming out process like with friends and family?
This is always a fun question to answer, as it kind of came in stages for me. I started masturbating to gay porn probably around the same time I did straight porn, but I always passed it off as, I’m just horny, it will go away. The years went by, and even into high school I subliminally suppressed that part of myself. My full realization that this was more than just a fluke actually came one year when I attended Minneapolis Pride with my mother and sisters, who are all bisexual. There I met a man who was, you could say, the pinnacle of twink perfection. I remember being in absolute awe of his gorgeousness. He was striking to me. It was the first time I had experienced such a phenomena with a man, and I realized this was a real thing within myself. I still, however, decided I was never going to tell anyone about it. If it was a part of me, it was to be a hidden part.

But that changed, eventually.
I didn’t reverse the decision until I was 21, at least five years later. I was sitting in my apartment alone one night at what must have been 3 a.m., and I just said, “You know what, who cares?” I made a long post on social media detailing all the things that made up my personality, all my hobbies and interests, and then at the end I said, “And I am bisexual.” It was important to me to make it clear that I was more than just my sexuality. The news was received well by virtually everyone in my life, thankfully.

I saw you recently mention that, outside of work and filming, you haven’t had sex for several months. Is that still the case now, and if so, I’m sorry!
Sadly, this is still true! I have anxiety when it comes to casual hook-ups, and I don’t really know anyone in the town I live, so I really don’t have sex much when I’m not in a relationship, which is currently the case.

Not including looks or physical attributes, what are three main things you look for in a partner?
If I am looking for a partner, the three main characteristics I look for are: 1. Being fearless when it comes to emotion. I’m someone who wears their heart on their sleeve, so it’s important for my partner to not be afraid of their emotional side. 2. An open mind. I could never be with someone who has a rigid mindset when it comes to things in life, as I live life according to my own rules and desires, not according to how others believe I should. 3. Self-Reflection, which I believe to be the most important attribute in life.

I was somewhat surprised when you revealed that you’re versatile and have bottomed for a previous boyfriend. Will you bottom at Helix in the future, and what kind of tops do you like?
I am indeed versatile! I’m still struggling in my journey with bottoming—bottoming and I very rarely “click”—but I’m determined to keep trying. I’ve come to the realization that one of the issues I have with bottoming is perhaps that I like to be in control of what’s happening to my own body, so I would have to say I’d probably prefer a more gentle top. I would love to bottom for Helix in the future, and I undoubtedly will! Promise!

Since we’ve talked about bottoming, I have to ask about your butt. Tall guys rarely have butts like yours, so do you do any special exercises to make it look as good as it does, or is that natural?
The infamous butt question! I will say, as with all things when it comes to fitness and bodybuilding, it’s a combination of both effort in the gym and also genetics. Everyone has their genetic gifts, some people have naturally better arms—I’m big time jealous of those people—others have crazy quad genetics, and so on. One of mine, thankfully, is my butt. That’s not to discredit all the hard work I’ve put into shaping that gift, though! Lots and lots of squats and barbell glute bridges definitely helped!

Aside from OnlyFans and Helix, do you do any other work or have another job? What else do you do in your spare time when you’re not performing or working?
I don’t currently have another job outside of Helix and OnlyFans. I take my OnlyFans very seriously, so I spend lots of time and effort doing that. When I’m not working or performing, I’m either at the gym or I’m in my room playing video games. I’m a big time hermit!

You’re also on social media a lot, which I know is sometimes part of the job. Many performers use their platforms to share opinions on current events—especially in the wake of the George Floyd murder—but some choose to keep their thoughts to themselves. You’ve shared your opinions while also continuing to promote your work, so how do you balance the two?
I originally balanced the two by not doing any promotion at all for about a week after everything happened, and focused my platform entirely on doing everything I can to help the movement for justice and equality. My only strategy when it comes to speaking on these issues is to never restrict myself or hold back. I’m a strong believer that silence is a statement in and of itself.

Have you ever been concerned about losing fans due to your beliefs, and why is it important for performers to share their opinions with fans?
I’ve never been too concerned about losing fans due to my beliefs, because to be quite honest, if you’re not a fan of things like equality, justice, and efforts against racism, then your fanhood of me is the last thing I’m concerned about. As performers, we have large public followings, so it’s pivotal that we understand that platforms are meant to be stood on, and if you’re using your platform to only stand for yourself, you’re not a public figure, you’re just a statue. We live in an age where information is more readily available than ever before, so as people with large followings, we have a responsibility to understand what kind of information we are disseminating, because whether consciously or subliminally, it does have an impact on people.

Being a sex worker in 2020 is a lot different than it was 20 or even 10 years ago, and talking about porn or being a porn star is not as “taboo” as it once was. What was your impression of porn or porn stars while you were growing up? Were you taught that it was wrong or bad?
I’d agree that it’s thankfully much less taboo than it used to be, but I would say there’s still a prevelant stigma permeating throughout society regarding sex workers, and that’s actually the reason I chose to commit to the industry as much as I have. Growing up, porn wasn’t seen as a “bad” thing, per se. It wasn’t really talked about; my mother knew it was something I watched, but then again so did every other teenage boy.

What was the first porn you ever saw?
I don’t remember the first porn I ever saw, but embarrassingly enough, I do remember when I first started masturbating. I would do it to women modeling bathing suits in shopping magazines! I remember being very scared to look at porn for some reason, so I would grab some random magazine and head to the bathroom. That’s the first time I’ve ever told that story!

What kind of porn did you watch before you became a porn star yourself?
I usually split my time fairly evenly between straight and gay porn, being bisexual, and I prefer POV content. I actually watch tons of videos in one sitting, I find it kind of fun to search for and find new videos I think are hot. When I find a video I like, I’ll leave that tab open forever. As a funny aside, I recently had to get a new phone and the saddest part was that I lost all my 80+ tabs of porn I had open! Tragic!

No! Ha ha. What about your own porn? Do you watch it, and do you critique your work? Is there anything performance-related that you try to do in your scenes to ensure that it’ll turn out good?
That’s a great question! I actually find it really hard to watch my own videos. It’s just one of those things, I can’t bear to watch it as I will just pick myself apart, piece by piece. I really should overcome this and develop an ability to watch my own scenes, so I can analyze it and see where I need to improve, though. I’ve always been very good at critiquing myself, however, and I’m always analyzing myself while I’m performing and taking mental notes. I really do try to get better in some way every single time I film. For me, I never want people to get bored of me or see me as stale, so I’m always trying to make sure I’m evolving in some way. I try to appear as natural as possible during a performance, and the more authentic it seems, the better a scene it is in my eyes.

What’s the craziest thing a fan has said or asked of you?
Someone once sent me a lot of very cryptic, coded picture messages for me to seemingly decipher. It was some kind of puzzle or something. It was like something out of a Saw movie or something like that. It was kind of creepy, and I just blocked the person and ignored them after that!

What’s the sweetest or kindest thing a fan has said to you?
Someone recently told me that they could see how much work and effort I put into my content, and that they are thankful and proud of me. That was really special to me, because I take my content very seriously and I get pretty hard on myself at times. I take lots of pride in what I do, believe it or not, and I don’t really have anyone in my life to tell me that they are “proud” of me besides myself, so it means a lot when fans recognize and appreciate my efforts.

Who at Helix have you not worked with yet that you would like to film with?
Tyler Sweet! He’s actually an old crush of mine, someone I’ve been jacking off to for a long time! I was super excited when I realized he worked for Helix, and that’s the reason I consulted him about joining. I think he’s super sexy and adorable, and he’s got a killer body. Once I get to film a scene with him, that will be like young Kane’s fantasies come to fruition!

Sounds like that will be happening soon, hopefully. What else can we look forward to from you in the next six months? I’ve noticed most of your work on OnlyFans is solo, but will there be collaborations?
In the next six months, there will be lots to look forward to! I’ll of course be filming tons of scenes with Helix; I have a camping movie I’m about to film with Helix in the next week, so look out for that soon. Personally, I’ll be relocating to another state soon—still undecided—so that will certainly open up the door for new collabs and content on my OnlyFans. I’ve mostly been a solo creator, but I’ve got some collabs planned soon and I’m definitely always looking to evolve and expand my content. Additionally, I have a project in the works that will hopefully have an impact in the sex work industry, so keep an eye out for that!

Before you started performing, did you have any concerns about entering the business and how it might figure into your life, say, 30 years from now? Do friends and family know about your work?
I didn’t really have any concerns when I got into professional porn. When I first got into sex work via OnlyFans, it caused lots of strain on my relationships with what little family I had left in my life (admittedly, these relationships were already very strained and vulnerable), and the end result was them not being in my life anymore. Being that I don’t have any family in my life, I don’t have to worry about them judging me or shaming me for my career choice or decisions, which I suppose is a nice silver lining.

And it’s clear there’s a real purpose to your work, and you’ve commited to it for a reason.
I committed to sex work fully because I realized the stigma surrounding the industry and how sex workers were still treated in society. I saw an opportunity for me to make a real change, to help normalize sex work and show people that sex work is just as valid as any other form of work. I really feel I can make a difference, and that’s why I’m as committed as I am. So, I guess in 30 years, I’d hopefully see myself having changed the industry and society’s views surrounding it.

Finally, this year has been so weird for all of us, but it’s been a great time to regroup and reflect. Looking back at the last six months, what are some of the things you’ve learned or grown from? Any life-changing or memorable experiences?
The past six months, for a myriad of reasons, has been crazy. I think the main thing I have learned is definitely self-sufficiency and independence. I’ve reached the point where I’m able to spend time with myself; take myself out to a nice dinner, take myself to the movies, take myself shopping, go traveling with myself. I really have learned to love myself as a companion, whereas in the past, I hungered far too much for companionship from others. I’ve found companionship and love within myself, and that’s actually kind of how I prefer it right now. I think everyone should find the life partner within themselves, not just the life partner in someone else.

That can be challenging for a lot of people, but it’s an important reminder right now, and I know you’ve inspired me. Thank you again for taking the time to chat, Kane!
