Last month, Hot House Entertainment finally gave up and was purchased by straight-owned porn conglomerate AEBN. It’s now being operated by the folks at Raging Stallion/Falcon, but instead of bringing in a new director, Hot House director Christian Owen will continue to shoot the studio’s movies.

So, which old school gay porn studio will be next to go?

  • Colorful Kent

Didn’t even know C1 had a website still now?

    • LB

Yup. It’ll be there along with Cher and the cockroaches after they drop the bomb. Chi Chi’s indestructible.

  • GN

Before I clicked on my vote, I looked at the list and asked myself, “Is Jet Set even around anymore?”…Evidently, a lot of other people had the same question. You know you’re dead when people aren’t even sure if you’re still alive.

  • Estelle

All good choices, looking up at the updates I would go with Jet Set Men first. The name Colt gets slapped on to interchangeable scenes. Lucas Entertainment reeks of desperation now, and people forget C1R is still around. I wonder how long before Christian Owen and his dull as dishwater boyfriend Jimmy Durano get pushed out at Hot House.
A few amateur companies appear to be circling the drain. SX Video might already have, and Jake Cruise now buys cheap foreign content and for the most part uses skid row talent.

Yeah Cock Sure Men has seriously gone downhill.

    • sxg

I think ChaosMen is one of those that is on the verge of going downhill. The guys there are just not that hot anymore. Whatever happened to guys like Solomon??? On the plus side, looks like Corbin Fisher might be bouncing back. The guys they’re using lately are noticeably hotter than the ones from months past.

Also I don’t think Jimmy Durano is going anywhere, even though he should. He’s been used at Falcon and Raging Stallion frequently even before the buyout.

The poll is about Gay Porn Studios. Not amateur porn. Chaosmen has a distinct clientele that it caters to and if you find that the men there are not to your liking it is obviously not you.

Well honestly you can say that about alot of ‘pro’ studios who cater to a specific type of model

  • Donald Horn

I stopped watching any of these studios last decade!!!

Re: Hot House, why is a takeover being characterized as a death? If someone cares enough to buy them and bankroll new titles, that sounds pretty alive to me.

    • sxg

Although it’s not physically dead, its individuality is. Hot House will lose its own identity that set itself apart from the rest of the big-name studios out there. To be honest, it probably lost its identity long ago when Christian Owen took over. The studio now is nowhere near the quality of directing and models that it had during the 2000 decade.

Both Raging Stallion and Falcon lost a lot of their own identities when the merge happened. The models overlapped studios, causing the more rougher looking Raging Stallion men to turn too clean cut and borderline feminine, and Falcon lost its dominant clean-cut appeal.

Mmm, interesting points. I had not paid attention to Hot House since it became clear that Todd Gibbs was not coming back, and that was a good ten years ago (as Donald Horn notes in his comment). i didn’t dislike them after that, but Descent, even though it was imperfect, represented to me the best they could offer artistically and the final thing that would ever matter from them.

It’s impossible to judge gay porn with total objectivity when so many things affect your experience with it, including what year you discovered it (for me, mid 90s). But having said that, I don’t think porn will ever get better than it was just before they gave up shooting on film. Leo and Lance, The Young and the Hung, Sailor in the Wild, and The Bigger the Better are so far beyond watching two straight 20-year-olds diddle each other on somebody’s sofa that I can hardly believe it’s considered the same genre.

I agree with Moondoggy. Steven has been in the business a really long time and maybe was ready for a change considering the dynamics of the adult business right now. I hardly would call that “giving up” and consider it to be a smart business move on his part. Hell, most people only stay at a job for what, maybe 3-5 years at most these days and Steven has been at this since the 1990’s! You don’t survive that long if you don’t have some business acumen.

Jet Set Men, just because I thought they were already out of business. At least Colt, Titan, and Lucas are trying to stay afloat by either deeply discounting their content or going bareback. And Channel One is held up by Chi Chi’s presence. I used to love Colt though, but lately all of their new scenes still look like they were filmed in the late 90’s.

  • yaoirabbit

If it’s COLT, I hope the new owner will stop withholding the archived webcam shows. I will continue to complain about this for as long as it takes.

  • I think that bareback studio SX Video might be going tits up. They have not released anything in a couple of months and are selling all the studios dvd videos at 75% off.

    • I have been told by someone in the know that SX Video isn’t releasing anything at the moment because they are in the process of relocating from California to Nevada and are focusing on their move right now. Hopefully they will release something new soon. :)

      • Estelle

Their releases have been few and far between and they have at least one OSHA complaint filed against them. They are a skid row porn company out of San Diego and most of their talent comes from the San Diego, so the expenses they pay are minimal. I don’t see a super cheap company like SX paying travel/lodging expenses for talent that has to come to Nevada to film.

        • Skid Row porn company by whose measure yours? And with the number of other studios moving production to Vegas it will be easy to coordinate with guys who are going to be in town already. Besides lots of porn stars travel in and out of Las Vegas.

          • I totally agree. It will be interesting to see which locations some other Californian based porn studios choose if they decide to make a move out of state.

        • The studio has been releasing scenes steadily over time at both SX Video and Hot Barebacking, with new scenes filmed when required. I guess if a San Diego based company finds talent in San Diego, I’m sure when they are based in Nevada they will find guys to film scenes there, since there are also guys in Nevada. 😉

      • Thanks Brad you always get the scoop 😉 That does make sense because I am Facebook friends with the Brad who runs SX Video and even asked him ny commenting to one of his posts about when they would be releasing a new video but he didn’t respond and lately has not been posting anything on his FB account so moving would explain that too.

        • You’re welcome for the information. :) I try to stay on top of these things where I can. It sounds like they’re busy with the move right now and hopefully we’ll be seeing something new from SX Video soon featuring some local guys from Nevada. :)

          • Estelle

Everything on the “hot barebacking” website is old content, so no they aren’t releasing new content but recycled from old videos.. SX pays almost nothing and over 95% of the talent pool is in California, for a studio that is super cheap and pays very little, I can’t see SX paying talent to travel, nor paying for lodging. The pool of local talent in Nevada is tiny, good luck getting them to bareback at the rates they were paying talent. SX a considered a skid row company because of it’s low pay and the fact that a lot of talent who can’t book work anymore in mainstream porn would go over to SX.
Cocksure Men/Jake Cruise isn’t purchasing foreign content to skirt around the bareback issue, they are doing it because it’s cheaper to buy content to produce their own these days. They are hanging on by the skin of their teeth.

          • Thanks for sharing your insight into all of this Estelle, you seem very knowledgeable about everything.

      • 1RealityCheck

Sounds like a lot of bareback producers will be doing that. I’m still baffled so many studios are profitable with the glut of free porn out there

        • It does sound like that and I’m waiting to see which other bareback producers will relocate to a different state because of the mandatory condom measure. CockSure Men seems to have stayed based in California for now, but now imports bareback scenes from Europe and other locations to get around the bareback production issue. Other bareback producers may also consider this option or decide to move elsewhere so they can continue to film their own bareback scenes. This is definitely an interesting time for bareback video producers and I’m sure many studios are struggling right now as a result of the free porn that’s available.

Didn’t even know Jet Set or Channel One still existed. I misread the headline first as “which gay porn star will die first”,
