Sean Cody Reduces Scene Updates To One Per Week Due To Coronavirus Pandemic
The effects of the coronavirus pandemic have already hit sex workers, porn stars, and porn studios hard over the last month, with virtually all productions shut down due to stay-at-home orders and attempts to flatten the curve across the country. Today, the first effects of those shutdowns can be seen from a consumer standpoint, as Sean Cody—the gay porn industry’s most popular studio, which is owned by MindGeek, the industry’s largest porn conglomerate —has announced that they’ve had to reduce the number of scenes they release per week by 50%. Sean Cody made the announcement to members via the below statement on their homepage:
Unfortunately due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we will need to reduce the amount of weekly updates on Sean Cody to 1 per week. We will resume our regular schedule as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Sean Cody and most studios have at least two to three months of content filmed in advance, meaning that Sean Cody would run out of scenes to release by June (if not May) if they continued to release two scenes per week. By cutting updates from two scenes every week to just one scene per week, the studio can presumably continue to release new content through at least August.
The one scene released this week is a three-way featuring the return of Sean Cody’s Nixon, who double-penetrates Manny with Archie:
Given that the studio is releasing half as much content as usual, they did launch a new membership sale this week, offering six-month passes for $50 (a discount of roughly 70%), and one-month passes for $20 (about 30% off the normal cost). Str8UpGayPorn has reached out to MindGeek to see if their other gay brands will also be reducing updates (Sean Cody, MEN, Bromo, and other MindGeek-owned studios all produce content in the same location in San Diego, California), and I’ll update this story when they respond. Given that Men.com releases seven scenes per week (one every day), they’ll likely have to cut at least two or three scenes per week.
