What Happened To ChaosMen? Future Of Texas-Based Gay Porn Studio Uncertain As Website Now Managed By Canadian Porn Conglomerate
Was Texas-based gay porn studio ChaosMen sold to Canadian porn conglomerate Gamma? Readers have been writing in all week asking this question after noticing a new copyright notice at the bottom of the ChaosMen website, which reads in part, “All content © Gamma Entertainment. All Rights Reserved. Unauthorized reproduction or distribution of any component of this site, in whole or in part, is a violation of applicable federal copyright laws and international copyright treaties. ChaosMen.com is a site owned and operated by Gamma Billing Inc.”
The screenshot above was taken from the ChaosMen homepage today, but there are other pages on the ChaosMen site (including the join page, as seen below) that still say ChaosInAustin (a.k.a. ChaosMen) holds the copyright for the site’s content:
Str8UpGayPorn has reached out to multiple representatives of Gamma as well as ChaosMen founder/owner Bryan Ockert for clarification on the apparent copyright transfer (and potential sale), but no one has responded all week, so it’s clear they aren’t prepared to comment publicly on the matter.
As a reminder, Gamma owns NextDoorStudios, ActiveDuty, and new site StagCollective, and they also do content/website management for Falcon Studios, Raging Stallion, and Hot House. But, it’s important to note that Gamma does not own Falcon, Raging, and Hot House (those brands are all owned by another porn conglomerate based in North Carolina called AEBN). Instead, Gamma runs the Falcon/Raging/Hot House websites, processes billing and handles customer service, publishes the studios’ content, and works with affiliates. At the bottom of the Falcon/Raging/Hot House sites, you’ll see the same Gamma copyright notice that’s on ChaosMen now:
I bring up the Gamma/Falcon content management with regard to Gamma/ChaosMen because it’s possible that Gamma is just running ChaosMen’s website now (like they do Falcon’s), and Gamma didn’t actually buy ChaosMen. But again, because neither side has responded, there’s no way to know.
If ChaosMen was in fact sold to Gamma, the Canadian conglomerate now owns over 15 years worth of content from one of gay porn’s last remaining independently-owned (not to mention gay-owned) studios. Along with Corbin Fisher, Sean Cody, and Randy Blue, ChaosMen was one of the first mainstream gay porn studios that helped revolutionize the industry online in terms of original content and casting in the early aughts. Sean Cody was sold to MindGeek (another Canadian conglomerate) in 2015 and had most of its content removed from the web last year, while Randy Blue shut down back in 2016. Corbin Fisher has managed to stay afloat on their own, albeit with a slimmed down model roster and production schedule.
If ChaosMen and/or Gamma respond or issue any statement on the ChaosMen ownership, this story will be updated. For now, a traditional ChaosMen scene is out today (the studio did release a solo earlier this week that was produced by a third party in Europe, so that could be a sign of something), with Daniel Dean topping Aiden Asher.
