2018 GayVN Awards: Photos, Acceptance Speeches, Winners List, And More
Helix, NakedSword, and CockyBoys took home most of the trophies at the 2018 GayVN Awards in Las Vegas, with performers Blake Mitchell, Austin Wilde, Brent Corrigan, and Sean Zevran taking home awards in key categories. Liam Riley hosted the red carpet, as seen above with Blake Mitchell and Ashton Summers, and RuPaul’s Drag Race star Shangela hosted the show. As far as the actual show, the GayVNs were entertaining (the video clips and nominee packages were great), slickly produced, and mostly perfect, moving swiftly with host Shangela. There was one bizarre sponsorship promo interrupting Brent Corrigan’s acceptance speech after he won Best Actor for his work in Ultra Fan. Before giving out the award, the presenters were supposed to mention that the winner would receive an Apple Watch prize courtesy of sponsor iWantEmpire (isn’t the GayVN award the prize?), but because that announcement wasn’t made, host Shangela had to come out on stage and interrupt Brent Corrigan right in the middle of his speech. Awkward…
The big news in Brent’s speech came at the end, when he announced that he was leaving Falcon. He’s starting his own studio, BC Homestead, in a few months, so stay tuned for more news on that.
One other highlight was during Chi Chi LaRue and Tim Valenti’s presentation of Best Newcomer, with Chi Chi saying that she’d throw that award’s sponsorship prize (these promos/prizes being announced with the awards was odd) at Michael Lucas’ face.
Lucas was in the audience with several of his models (who undoubtedly all paid for their own airfare and hotel rooms in Vegas), but despite being nominated in multiple categories, the disgraced bigot and serial model abuser left the GayVNs empty handed, taking home zero awards.
