Despite being a racist symbol of slavery and white supremacy, and despite being commonly used by hate groups like the Ku Klux Klan, gay porn studio CollegeDudes apparently saw no issue with putting a Confederate Flag on display in their latest gay porn scene. A tattoo of the flag is on the hand of gay porn newcomer Brian Michaels, an OnlyFans model turned gay porn star, and it’s seen prominently at various points throughout the video.

Michaels was introduced to the industry last year by his friend and fellow performer Cliff Jensen, whom Michaels served prison time with in Florida (like Jensen, Michaels is also an ex-convict).

Regardless of one’s views on a symbol like the Confederate Flag—some still try to claim that it’s a symbol of “southern heritage” (so, in other words: slavery)—it’s not clear why a gay porn studio would choose to put a symbol as controversial as this in their content. Couldn’t they just hire any other OnlyFans model who doesn’t have a Confederate Flag tattoo? There has to be at least one.

For his part, Michaels addressed the controversial tattoo last December, telling followers that it was a “mistake” he made in prison, and that he was “led astray”:

confed1That’s good to hear, and recognizing one’s own ignorance is a step in the right direction. But Michaels’ admission last year is obviously not part of the new CollegeDudes scene, so as far as anyone watching the video is concerned, CollegeDudes is fine with waving around a Confederate Flag in their gay porn. What kind of viewer wants to see this?

Why would any gay porn studio (or any business at all) choose to have this symbol representing their product? And again, why couldn’t they just hire someone—anyone—else? No offense, but people with racist tattoos just shouldn’t work in visual media that’s based entirely on their physical appearance. Sorry. (Or, at the very least, the studio could’ve used make-up—or a glove?!—to cover the fucking thing up.)

In 2016, gay porn performer Cameron Diggs was called out for his white supremacist tattoos, and some of his scenes were subsequently pulled down from studio websites. (He was later arrested for manufacturing meth during a SWAT team raid in Texas.) And, just last year, several performers and fans took issue with a “Best Ethnic” category at a gay porn awards show, leading to the removal of the category and a broader discussion of the problem with racism in the gay porn industry. With this CollegeDudes release, that problem, obviously, is nowhere near being over.
