tattooAnother day, another white gay porn star with a racist tattoo.

In what has now become a semi-annual event, another gay porn studio has released another scene featuring a white performer with a tattoo that’s been classified by the ADL as a symbol of hate commonly used by white supremacists. The tattoo this time is a Confederate Flag, and the studio releasing the scene with the racist symbol is Sean Cody:

Screen Shot 2019-06-10 at 9.59.58 AMAs seen above, today’s Sean Cody model, Zane, has a tattoo of the Confederate Flag emblazoned across the state of Texas on his upper right arm. The screencap comes from a video trailer that Sean Cody posted on Twitter this morning. But, in the trailer and full scene on Sean Cody’s actual site, the Confederate Flag has been blurred out, as seen below:

Throughout the video, Sean Cody attempted to blur out the racist symbol in post-production editing:

And, here’s the trailer that Sean Cody posted to Twitter, where they either forgot or didn’t know they needed to blur the tattoo (the MindGeek employees who operate the Sean Cody Twitter and who upload videos directly to Sean Cody are undoubtedly different people, and there were obviously two different versions of this trailer distributed). The tattoo is seen at around 46 seconds:

On the one hand, at least someone in post-production at Sean Cody realized that having a racist symbol on display in their gay porn scene was not appropriate. On the other hand, why was this model with this symbol hired in the first place? The studio hasn’t introduced a new solo model in over a month, and this is the best they have to offer?

With regard to why the tattoo was blurred and if this performer will be back in a sex scene (where the tattoo would, presumably, be blurred again?), a rep from MindGeek (the company that owns Sean Cody) tells Str8UpGayPorn, “My assumption is the Confederate Flag was blurred due to the fact that it may not resonate well with the gay audience. I cannot say for sure whether or not he will be back, or if this tattoo will be blurred in the scene or not, as we really aren’t given this information.”

Str8UpGayPorn has asked for further clarification from Sean Cody directly, and this post will be updated if and when they respond.

Screen Shot 2019-06-10 at 12.01.39 AMAs noted the last time a Confederate Flag showed up in a gay porn scene, there’s no logical reason for any gay porn studio (or any business) to put a symbol as controversial and offensive as a Confederate Flag in their content. Regardless of what anyone thinks of the flag—some still claim that it’s a symbol of “southern heritage” (so, in other words: slavery)—the studio could’ve avoided all of this by just hiring someone—anyone—else without the tattoo. Instead, in 2019, a gay porn studio has chosen to have their brand associated with racism. The fact that Sean Cody tried to hide the symbol proves that they know exactly what it represents, and yet, they released the scene anyway.
